It looks likes the pro SRO folks up thread have their dream candidate in Deborah Ash: http://friendsofdebbieash.com/goals-for-alexandria-school

Thanks for this. So with Kelly Booz, Tammy Ignacio & PreeAnn Johnson in B and Christopher Harris in C - housing on school grounds will happen at George Mason, then Cora Kelly, and then Maury/Brooks.

In the fall, planning commissioner Nate Macek said something along the lines of that it's time all the residential neighborhoods (including his own) make some sacrifices on this. Now City Council won't even have to override the school board.

How did Debbie Ash get on the ballot? Like literally no one would sign her petition in Open ACPS. She tried to join the group and misread the room. People outright told Debbie her views are dangerous and divisive. Who in Alexandria is supporting this person?

Who is Ricardo Roberts in District B? I can't find out anything about him.

That is an interesting District B mix-- have some west side candidates.

LOL. You're saying that OpenACPS told Ash that her views were dangerous and divisive? OpenACPS? Well, bless their hearts.

I'm in Open ACPS and I'm not at all conservative. Debbie Ash's posts asking for signatures to get on the ballot were not well received for Open ACPS. No one was interested in signing her petition. When she posted about masks and vax then a few people liked and commented, but a lot of people also exited. I think she read her audience wrong. Open ACPS is not into Trumpy stuff.

Back to the candidates. What do we know about Aloysius Boyle, D Ohlandt, Ricardo Roberts, Bridget Westfall, Ashley Simpson Baird, Christopher Harris?

A few parents did tell her views were dangerous and divisive. In a group of 800 people, there are a variety of political positions and not everyone in Open ACPS is conservative. Only in NoVA do people equate reopening schools safely with Trump and DeVos. In NYC and other areas of the country, progressive parents are leading the charge to reopen. I get not reopening when we were in the thick of the pandemic, but every school district except ACPS, APS and PGCS opened four days a week in April. I know some of my kids' friends are at home alone as young elementary school kids as their parents had to be at their government or military jobs or are essential workers.

I can’t believe she found enough people to sign her petition. Her views are so extreme that it disturbs me. She said something in Open ACPS about believing BLM protesters were actually more of a threat to public safety than the insurrectionists of 1/6. I’m disappointed that Alexandria residents would support putting her on the school board of our diverse city.

Let's get back to the candidates. I think Baird's website looks good. She seems like a strong candidate. What do I need to know about the two ACPS employees Ignacio and Johnson? I can't find anything about Ignacio online. Johnson was the principal of the year. Why do you think they are running after retiring? Seems a little conflict of interest to me since they have a financial interest in ACPS as former employees. Will they keep Hutchings accountable?

Even people who are conservative are not pro insurrection. It is really insensitive in a group of parents where many work in the Capitol and in law enforcement, where many students are immigrants and of students who are Black and Latino. My kids were at day care on lockdown the day of the insurrection. I will not be voting for Ash. I can't believe anyone signed her petition.

Bridget Westfall's website isn't up yet. Does she have an education background? Where does she work? It looks like a DC agency for child welfare?
