The GSD owners I know are all confident, emotionally secure folks who are typically in good shape, often runners. I love german shephards but I think Im too much of a doormat to have one. I know my place with a docile golden. |
We had boxers growing up and that was so not us. We had a huge house overflowing with kids and the boxer was so chill! Great family dogs. |
| Mastiffs, especially french mastiffs, seem to be owned almost exclusively by aggro single guys who seem to use steroids, refuse to get their dogs fixed or socialized, and often don’t pick up their enormous poops. |
No, I say—young UMC couple, no kids yet, and the Bernie is their adorable practice baby which they had to buy a subaru or SUV and move to the close-in suburbs to accomodate. |
| Great Pyranese: Always seems to be a man who owns them and they don't always look well groomed (poor pups have so much fur and need to be brushed daily). |
The owner let the unleashed GD poop on my plants, roam my backyard freely while they were doing some sort of garage work. They never apologized. Some time later, I called the PD on them for trespassing repeatedly and making noises at night. They denied their wrongdoing. |
. This is the perfect answer. |

My experience with Great Dane owners is from living in NYC....rich folks on the upper east side low-key flexing that they could afford enough space in the city to house such a big dog. Usually middle-aged WASPy women. |
Must depend on where you are and also the quality of the dog. Where I've been it is usually a bunch of poorer uneducated men trying to impress their friends and come off as super masculine and dominant. They definitely weren't athletic, emotionally stable or secure. Their 3mo old BYB pup already crippled by hip dysplasia is not impressing anyone. The fact that that dog (and the previous two) were never trained or taken to a vet are also strong negatives. 100% I judge people by how they care for their animals and if they bother to train them. The other folks I know with German Sheps match your description and were very accomplished, athletic, and put-together. They had well-trained dogs. Not sure on their origin but they seem to be aging well and remaining active. |
Owner of 2 pure-bred goldens and they, of course, have an IG account. :p We do have 1 kid, though. |
| Wheaten terrier owner is mom of several kids who got this hypoallergenic dog overlooking the fact that they are high- strung athletic predators 24/7. Aggressive barking at all real and imagined vermin from a beast with no off switch drives her to drinking or ear plugs. |
This Portie owner fits both descriptions. We could have chosen another "hypoallergenic" dog but my Portie makes me think of happier times in this era of doom and gloom. |

Just seeing this thread and the Pitbull comments are on point! DH and I are UMC liberals and rescued our pitty from a rural Virginia shelter where he undoubtedly was bred by LMC then became a stray. We were/are totally on the rescuing the underdog train since he has been the dog with the longest time in the shelter when we got him.
