Matt Gaetz has a 19-year-old Cuban immigrant son...

From a 2018 profile of Gaetz in GQ:

https://www.gq.com/story/matt-gaetz-trumpiest-congressman-in-washington

Gaetz is tall, clean-cut, and sturdy—he's conscious of his weight—with chestnut hair and deep-set eyes, his face vaguely evocative of a bulldog or a pug. He's not married, a rarity for a politician and a fact that gets remarked upon now and then. He told me a story about that. Once, at a party at the Florida governor's mansion, he introduced his date to Governor Rick Scott. "Why aren't you married yet?" Scott teased him. "Well, Governor, Gaetz shot back, 'You vetoed alimony reform.' "

When I asked Gaetz what his date had thought of his alimony zinger, he said, "I don't think she knew what alimony was." Then he said, "She's this Cuban girl." Then he did an impression of her asking him, " 'What is thees alimony?' "

The simple explanation of Gaetz dating a woman who's nephew lost his mother and him deciding to step up to the plate and mentor the kid (who's now like a son to him) is not good enough for liberals. They have to make up hateful, disgusting explanations.

And we wonder why Democratic cities are like they are? And why they are so easily led by the media?

It isn't good enough because what you described is not what Gaetz said. There is a serious gap. Either Gaetz is stretching the nature of the relationship, or else there is something seriously creepy going on. I opt for the former.

I grew up with a family I refer to as a third family on the side. The kids call me 'aunty'. I'm not their real aunt. That does not mean I'm trying to sleep with any of them, FFS.

Do you publicly claim them as your adopted children? No? Not weird then.

When people ask me who they are, I say, my nieces and nephews. Gaetz sees him as a son

You never called your nieces and nephews "helpers" or "local students"? That doesn't sound like "sees him as a son".

No one sees me as someone they can ‘get’ in any way shape or form. If I was someone surrounded by crazies like y’all, I would definitely not use names or state any relationship.

He was a kid himself at the time he allegedly "adopted" this kid. Who was "getting" him?

LOL at you and your fake “nieces and nephews”.

This whole story just makes me very uncomfortable. I’m not saying I think there’s anything sexual going on, just that even if nothing untoward was going on, Gaetz let this kid move in because he was living with the kid’s sister, the kid moved out when his sister did but then moved back in for some unknown reason, there’s been no indication in the past that Gaetz had any kind of guardianship relationship with him, and then all of a sudden Gaetz whips out a reference to this kid during a committee meeting to score points on how he supposedly knows what it’s like to raise a black kid (never mind that Nestor isn’t black).

Now he’s giving this whole song and dance about respecting Nestor’s privacy until Nestor was ready to share the information, which just doesn’t ring true. This wasn’t a planned announcement, he let it out in the heat of the moment to win an argument. Are we really supposed to believe that they’ve had a parent-child relationship for years that Nestor wanted to keep a secret until just Wednesday morning, hours before Gaetz had occasion to mention him in a committee meeting. It just doesn’t hold water.

It looks he Gaetz was attempting to get ahead of something. He was probably tipped off about an upcoming expose.

It's either this, as best case scenario, or something more sinister.

In the best case scenario, it exposes Gaetz as an impulsive liar.

Gaetz was dating and maybe living with Nester’s sister Maisbel (May) Mendez when the mom Ana Matos died. Gaetz was her lawyer seeking custody/guardianship of Nester over the bio father Nester Sr. The Gaetz name and influence in Florida Won the case but more or less based on the expectation that Nester would live in the Gaetz household. At some point the sister moved out of Gaetz’s house and was still the guardian but Nester remained in the Gaetz extended family household. For whatever reason, Gaetz hasn’t called him his son until today when he needed a non-white son to make a political point, except that Nester is white.

This is what happened except that when May Mendez and Matt Gaetz broke up in 2017, she moved to Las Vegas and Nestor moved to the Miami area for a while, maybe to live with his bio dad. Nestor was on the soccer team at Mater Academy Charter in Hialeah Gardens in 17-18, but then he moved back to the Gaetz house for his senior year 18-19 and graduated from Choctawhatchee High School in Destin.

So to recap: Nestor's sister May lived with Gaetz, he helped her get co-custody of Nestor, and Nestor lived with them for a couple of years. When May left for Vegas, Nestor went to Miami area, but then Nestor came back to live with the rich and influential Gaetz family in the Panhandle.

Gaetz did good things, helping his ex with her brother and helping the brother after the break-up with the ex, but Nestor is not his son and Nestor is white, so Gaetz was out of bounds referring to Nestor as his "non-white son" to justify his All Lives Matter hectoring in a Congressional hearing.

Based on this version of events, Nestor is Gaetz's "friend". Nothing more. Gaetz helped him out here and there. But, the level of their relationship does NOT equate to father/son. To suggest that Nestor is his "adopted" son is also wrong. They are like 12 yrs apart. That's not a parental relationship.

Perhaps Gaetz at one time could have claimed to be Nestor's guardian --- but even that is a stretch b/c it wasn't a formal gardianship. Basically, Nestor crashed at Gaetz's house. That makes Nestor a houseguest or friend. That's it.

Or older brother. Which Gaetz never once said he was.

Is that son or "son?"

YES VERY WEIRD

also posted are holiday cards - Gaetz family - but his "son" is not in the picture. Was he holding the camera, were the comments.

any way you look at it, Gaetz is a POS and this "kid" is being manipulated.

Love this jumping to conclusions w/o evidence. Might want to look up what Katie Hill said about his relationship with Nestor. She would actually know something since she observed it unlike keyboard warriors on the Internet.

We know what Katie Hill wrote and it doesn't make us feel less suspicious about this, thank you.

There is no way I’m taking the word of woman ousted from Congress for an inappropriate sexual relationship with two aides.

IDGAF about her relationship with the aides. There's no way I'm taking the word of someone who was willing to be ousted from Congress because she didn't want dirty pictures publicized. Crank up the Xerox, put them out yourself, and get on with being in Congress.

My family actually includes many fictive kin relationships--people who are as close as relatives (sometimes closer than) and titles that are "relative" titles. They don't track perfectly with normal family relationships (eg so and so has been my "Aunt" so and so for my entire life. So and so's daughter and my mom call each other sisters. But I am not so and so's daughter's "niece".)

I really get that fictive kin are a thing and the words to describe them can be imprecise.

This is not that. Nope. Nope-ity nope nope. Nope on a rope.

Yes! I was so surprised when she just left... it made me think there was actually something else, actually.

Gaetz is incredibly insulting to adoptive families. It takes parenting classes, a home study, a clean criminal record, including no DUI arrests and multiple DHS forms to adopt internationally.

This isn't the first time there have been rumors about Gaetz being kinky. I think this is highly suspicious. He needs to release the kids birth certificate. It would have been changed after the adoption to reflect the fathers name.

There is no need to release any confidential information about this innocent young man, what on earth is wrong with you???

It is already clear Gaetz is not actually parenting the teen, just loosely "older brother-ish" (in the non-pedo scenario, which is already abundantly opportunistic in the way it was declared).

So no need to go crazy, PP.
