What you call misguided, I call Christian. She is living Christian beliefs.

So she thinks the "pain" of those protesting justifies burning a church.

I was watching this when the fire was reported. Does she know that the fire department had trouble getting there because the "protesters" wouldn't move? Had the authorities not managed to put the fire out, the church likely would have suffered extensive damage. But, the protester's "pain" and all that.

She could have said something healing. She chose not to do so.

Yes, she knows. She has more religiosity and compassion in her pinky nail than you have in your whole body. Please, just stop.

Remember when Jesus destroyed the temple, "Christian?"

We see the police give an order 20 minutes before curfew and then immediately start shooting tear gas canisters at people. We see the pastors statement and the mayors tweets. There is no way to spin it, just like there’s no way to spin what happened to George Floyd..

Wow. Did you watch the night before? When the "protesters" set fires burning? In Lafayette Park? In the church? On the streets? And, you think the authorities are "out of line" to make the people follow the curfew? You want them to wait until AFTER they set fires?

The curfew was at 7. The problem is that if they waited until 8, it would have been tougher to move them out.

My parents taught me at a very early age: if a policeman tells you to do something, you do it. I'm a white woman. I still follow that rule.

George Floyd didn’t die in Antifa custody, he died in police custody. Your privilege is showing.

She did say something about healing. She invoked Jesus’ message of compassion. She said Trump’s words and actions so far have been the opposite of this.

You keep making stuff up and I and others will keep pointing out your lies.

Because the area wasn't cleared out for a photo op. It was cleared out - people escorted to an area where the police had control.
And, it looks like their plan actually worked.

WTF is wrong with you? People were “escorted out”? Did you read the account from the church’s pastor about running from the gas? Because none of this had anything to do with Cheeto’s photo op 10 minutes later?

I want some of what you’re smoking.

So Trump gassed and evicted protestors AND the church’s own priests.

Exactly!! Someone hasn’t been listening to her! Everything coming out of her mouth is about healing and fixing the problems.

So many posters doing ethical gymnastics to try and defend Trump’s abuse of American citizens so he could create a photo op. That he exploits religion is the least of the issues.

That phot op shouldn’t just revolt you, it should scare you. What’s next? He’s got a heavily armed military and vendettas galore. He calls his political opposition subhuman and regularly demeans American Democrats (he doesn’t stand for all citizens).

I swear I am not usually this slow but-

what was the point of the photo op? What are we supposed to take away from it? I really truly don't see any significance of him standing in front of a church with a bible. I am a white Christian btw so I guess I am supposed to understand but I swear I don't get it and I am too embarrassed to ask on social media

I mean it's a church so why the need to hold a bible? Like the bible will somehow make it more churchy or religious? I get that its a historic church but it's not like it's Trump's personal church he has attended for years and years and I don't condone starting a fire there but the building didn't burn down or anything and even the rector of the church didn't seem to upset by the fire.

They were banking on this helping his standing with the evangelicals.

He's hurting even with them. His approval is down among every group.

This is why the Military Police attacked peaceful protesters and media with tear gas, rubber bullets, and clubs, so the White House could make this campaign video.

Oh look, another Con thumping his chest about an argument he actually lost.

You can’t defend the indefensible. Your orange baby gassed people to make one of the dumbest, crudest photo ops in history. All your attempts to conflate the peaceful protestors he gassed with looters are transparent lies. Whether or not he had the right to gas them is irrelevant in the face of the cruelty he inflicted by actually gassing them. The church where he grandstanded is outraged that he used their property to wave around someone else’s bible and didn’t even pretend to pray.

If they dispersed as asked, would they have been ‘gassed’?

And this is why we are shunning you. What a shameful, unAmerican thing to say.

Oh, shut up. You know you are whining about "left intolerance." Yes, shunning. Not our friendship, not our money. This is beyond politics.

I don't want your friendship or your money. What makes you think I need it?

Shunning me?? Oh, how very painful - LOL.

Again, if they dispersed as asked, would the police have had to use tear gas?

Stop deflecting with this bs about being asked. Several accounts, including from the pastor of the church, say they weren’t asked, that the police just started charging.

Bottom line: the president disrupted a peaceful protest for a cheap photo-op. WTF cares if he asked or not.

They were indeed told to disperse. They did not.
