WTF is wrong with you? People were “escorted out”? Did you read the account from the church’s pastor about running from the gas? Because none of this had anything to do with Cheeto’s photo op 10 minutes later?

I want some of what you’re smoking.

So Trump gassed and evicted protestors AND the church’s own priests.

Guaran-damn-tee you the church was notified that the President was coming. What they chose to do with that warning and what happened afterwards? It's on them.

Oh look, another Con thumping his chest about an argument he actually lost.

You can’t defend the indefensible. Your orange baby gassed people to make one of the dumbest, crudest photo ops in history. All your attempts to conflate the peaceful protestors he gassed with looters are transparent lies. Whether or not he had the right to gas them is irrelevant in the face of the cruelty he inflicted by actually gassing them. The church where he grandstanded is outraged that he used their property to wave around someone else’s bible and didn’t even pretend to pray.

If they dispersed as asked, would they have been ‘gassed’?

And this is why we are shunning you. What a shameful, unAmerican thing to say.

Shunning me?? Oh, how very painful - LOL.

Again, if they dispersed as asked, would the police have had to use tear gas?

Stop deflecting with this bs about being asked. Several accounts, including from the pastor of the church, say they weren’t asked, that the police just started charging.

Bottom line: the president disrupted a peaceful protest for a cheap photo-op. WTF cares if he asked or not.

They were indeed told to disperse. They did not.

Are you saying all those priests at the church, who were forced to flee, were lying?

Either the church's priest is lying or you are. I know which side I believe.

It was a peaceful gathering and curfew wasn't for another 1/2 hour.

That phot op shouldn’t just revolt you, it should scare you. What’s next? He’s got a heavily armed military and vendettas galore. He calls his political opposition subhuman and regularly demeans American Democrats (he doesn’t stand for all citizens).

I swear I am not usually this slow but-

what was the point of the photo op? What are we supposed to take away from it? I really truly don't see any significance of him standing in front of a church with a bible. I am a white Christian btw so I guess I am supposed to understand but I swear I don't get it and I am too embarrassed to ask on social media

I mean it's a church so why the need to hold a bible? Like the bible will somehow make it more churchy or religious? I get that its a historic church but it's not like it's Trump's personal church he has attended for years and years and I don't condone starting a fire there but the building didn't burn down or anything and even the rector of the church didn't seem to upset by the fire.

They were banking on this helping his standing with the evangelicals.

He's hurting even with them. His approval is down among every group.

PP here - Ohhh ok - thanks for explaining for me

No, apparently they weren't. They did not want it.

They were peacefully protesting, a right guaranteed by the Constitution. It was still half an hour or more before the curfew. They were told to leave for no legitimate reason. The Military Police shot rubber bullets and tear gas into the crowd and marched into and clubbed people to force them back. All the criminals in this action were in uniform.

As a cradle Episcopalian and a member of EDOW and member of a DC parish (I won't name it), I can tell you first hand that neither EDOW nor St. John's was notified beforehand. I know several of the priests who were at St. John's yesterday, peacefully protesting, playing music, bearing witness, handing out snacks (seriously). The rector of St. John’s, Gini Gerbasi was there and gave her account - I'm sure you've seen it.

What Trump did was an ugly publicity stunt in the style of a cheap, self-styled dictator. If you have any decency or love for this country, you should be outraged.

Tear-gassing peaceful protesters to pose in front of a church he doesn’t attend with a book he’s never read to threaten violence is peak Trump.

OBVIOUSLY the gassed priests are lying, but even if they were gassed it was because they wouldn’t let Trump worship. We all know how important church attendance is to Trump. He held that bible like someone who has definitely held a lot of books, mainly bibles, in his life.

(Some people are just totally lost.)
