Nations Capital Cup

To the earlier poster about LMVSC Red 03, the current roster is very different than the one from 2018 and hardly resembles last year's white team.

For this tournament, LMVSC Red 03 played up and won the U18 Championship flight. The team went undefeated, scoring 9 goals and yielding 3 goals over four matches.

SYC Blue 03 got last year's points and ranking.

While the Nation's Cup points were not yet awarded, SYC is currently ranked #3 in VA, and LMVSC is #8.

I saw LMVSC play. They were okay. Still wondering how they let that MSC corner squeak through everyone.

Jeff cup is no different than any preseason tournament. Teams have either been playing Futsal during the winter or they have been scrimmaging during their off-season. And having some practices. Jeff cup, ASIST, and others are hardly a measure of a teams level. Lots of upsets and lopsided games.

Tournaments are tournaments. It is fun for the kids to do well / win, regardless of what the parents think from a competition level.

The new LMVSC team is nowhere the level of SYC (the old LMVSC). Got soccer points are almost meaningless.

No some clubs go inside during the winter and always come out of the winter playing very well. They change the focus of training to ball skill and tight space games. Others like Arlington practice outside(lose almost 1/2 the practices because of weather) and continue the same training they did in the fall(ie no skill work). Those clubs always look bad in the spring. Many club just throw the ball on the court for futsal with no practice. The kids get nothing from it.

As for the Jeff Cup. It’s not a preseason tournament. Most clubs are in form because it’s late March. They have been playing together for over 7 months. If your team sucks at that point it is what it is.

It’s just a semantic difference. OP feels that preseason is only summer because the teams have been together and playing for some time by March. PP feels that each season (fall, spring) are completely discrete. There’s not really a right or wrong answer, but OP has a point on the fact that the team should have gelled by March for the Jeff Cup and it’s not the same as a freshly minted team playing a tournament starting out in August.

If teams are going to the Jeff Cup they should have prepared for it. Have probably played and trained over the winter as well. If they’re playing HS they’ve been conditioning with their school teams as well. It’s not the same as fall preseason. But we believe what we want to believe, don’t even argue with these trolls.

My son’s team runs practice year round with no breaks other than thanksgiving week, July 4 week, Xmas break, and for weather issues. Outdoor all the time. They do fall and spring season play and Jan/Feb futsal.
