Much say in what? Trump's attempted photo op? Or the negotiations over how and when she is finally going to return to Britain to take responsibility for her actions?

She’s not ever going back. This is all for show by the U.K. govt to appease the family and say they tried. I’m not sure what the Dunn’s thought would happen by “meeting with Trump.”

The US is not going to extradite her and she’s be insane to go back willingly. I’m shocked this story is even still in the news.

Why? I think the random person on the street would be shocked by the callous depravity of the Sacaloos family, Trump, and the USG in how this was handled. Most Americans don't share those values.

This is horrible. The new national security advisor, Robert O'Brien, was in on it too.

While Trump and O’Brien had ruled out Sacoolas returning to Britain, Charles said Trump had taken her hand and promised to try to look at the issue from another angle. Stephens said that offer had left open the opportunity for a political solution.

“We have said for a long time the family needs to meet, they need to meet in private, away from the media and not curated by politicians, spies or indeed lawyers,” he said.

“Most sensible folk and not a nincompoop in a hurry would understand that.”

I'd hope they'd put out a statement saying that they misunderstood how this was going to be handled then.

The Sacoolases are the American couple.

Yes, I know that. I meant that I would hope the Sacoolases would say that they didn't understand how this was going to be handled or something to that effect. Unless they did know and understand.

The Sacoolases are now at the whims of Trump. They won't say or do anything without running it by the WH. Honestly, she should have just remained in the UK, pled guilty, and spent her 3 weeks at a low-security day camp. The USG would have paid her fine.

Why? That is exactly what she should do.

1. She absolutely did the wrong thing.
2. She has three small children. She was scared.

There is no good solution for anyone here.

I hope they sue her and get everything she has. She is a murderer and is not covered by diplomat immunity.

Remember when Trump gave the thumbs up when posing with the baby whose parents were murdered in Texas by the white nationalist gunman?

You know that's exactly what he would have done when posing with the parents of the dead teenager and the woman who killed him.

Every single one of you reading this knows that, even the Republicans among you.

Donald Trump’s national security adviser heaped pain and grief on the parents of a British teenager killed in a car crash by trying to hold a meeting at the White House between them and a U.S. diplomat’s wife who was involved, the parents’ lawyer said.

Charlotte Charles and Tim Dunn were invited to a surprise meeting with the U.S. president at his office on Wednesday where they were further shocked to learn that Anne Sacoolas, the American woman involved in the fatal crash, was in the building.

Mark Stephens, the lawyer for Charles and Dunn, said national security adviser Robert O’Brien had the idea of overseeing a coming together of the families before they would then hug in front of an assembled media.

“(O’Brien has) heaped grief and pain on the family by making them go through this but not allowing them to get the closure they need by talking to Mrs Sacoolas before they can go onto the grieving stage,” Stephens told BBC radio on Thursday.

The parents are in pain. They have also been begging to speak with the woman. This was a poor idea. They cannot have what they really want: their son back. Painful situation for all.

Are you saying that it was ok for Trump to spring a surprise meeting with the woman who killed their son, because no matter what they'd be hurting so why not make them hurt even more like this?

The "...but my children..." excuse is such BS. The UK government would have treated her with kid gloves had she done the right thing. She would would have faced a fine and a very minimal amount of time in a low security facility. She has an able-bodied husband and likely a family/friends support network to deal with the kids. This would have been off the news pages over a weekend had she done the right thing. Hell, in 2-3 years' time they probably could have had the coverage buried on Google with search engine optimization.

IMHO, a terrible example was set for the three children. Especially the 10 year old in the front seat who was witness to the death.

Would you say this about someone who killed your child “accidentally”?

Trump was trying to get the families to meet and make up ala Obama’s beer summit and it backfired spectacularly.
