Foreigner who killed teen in car crash flees the country to evade justice

At least there could be a wrongful death suit, right?

Wait, so now they say she didn’t have diplomatic immunity? And she has been speaking with the family? What is going on??

Random news stories colliding/DC small world anecdote: the victim’s family in that case was represented by Mark Zaid, who currently represents at least two of the Ukraine whistleblowers.

This is a very sick story
Your heart just cries out for justice

She might have faced a charge of death by careless driving and had to serve a short sentence in a low-security prison. But she could have felt that she was paying for her mistake, and the parents would have been satisfied that justice had been done. But by spiriting her away (after she told the police she was not going anywhere), she may forever feel hunted and haunted. And the parents would forever feel cheated of justice. This is a case of diplomatic immunity badly applied.

Did Laura Bush feel "hunted and haunted"? How about Ted Kennedy?

“The family of the young man killed in a crash in UK allegedly involving a spouse of US diplomat went to visit Trump at the White House. He surprised them by saying the woman was in the next room and tried to get them to meet. Now the family spokesperson tells CNN they were "wary" of White House meeting and when Trump suddenly said the woman, Anne Scoolas was next door it "was a shock." They declined, saying they wanted to meet her on their terms - on UK soil (she fled country under diplomatic immunity.) Spokesperson said:
"Reflecting on it this morning, I think Charlotte and Tim realise that the President was only doing it for himself."

This is f#cking crazy. Trump had three photographers in the room, ready to capture the meeting and blast it it to world. God knows I’d feel dirty after that.

Seiger told the BBC that the meeting felt a bit like "an ambush."

"I thought we were coming down to have a debate on the diplomatic immunity law and it soon became clear to us that the real reason for inviting us down was to try and get Charlotte and Mrs Sacoolas in a room together and then I looked to my side and I saw at least three photographers ready to almost almost ... do a press call," he said.

"I think the family feel a little bit ambushed to say the least," he added.

How the Sacaloos family could agree to participate in such shenanigans completely blows my mind.

I saw this story earlier this morning - it is ... bizarre ... to say the least. I'd be surprised if Sacoolas' lawyer/representative would agree to this. It is a terrifically terrible idea.

They probably didn’t realize that he’s such a yuge DB.

Again, I don’t feel like the Sacoolases are having much say in any of this.

Wow that is just gross. Good for them for standing their ground and refusing to meet with her.

I'd hope they'd put out a statement saying that they misunderstood how this was going to be handled then.

Much say in what? Trump's attempted photo op? Or the negotiations over how and when she is finally going to return to Britain to take responsibility for her actions?

What on earth do you expect to happen if you “ask Trump to intervene”??

If you expect anything aside from his self serving, reality show style grandstanding and lies on top of lies, you’re delusional.

Grieving parents, and Trump treats them like they’re on Ambush Makeover. Smh.

The Sacoolases are the American couple.
