More attacks on passengers on metro in dc

It’s atrocious behavior. Human interactions have degraded. I can’t blame trump in this case. I blame the parents. Anyone who defends these assholes is no batter than a racist. We should expect more from people. Basic civility and decency.

I think the Metro Transit Police’s reaction should be continued. Thus far this year they’ve made 1,446 Arrests, issued 6,061 Citations/Summonses, given 183 Written Warnings, and addressed 5,091 incidents of Fare Evasion. I know the popular cynical stance is to assume nothing is being done but based on those numbers it doesn’t look like they’re sitting on their asses letting miscreants run amuck and all hell break loose to me. And recent statistics have shown that serious crimes involving the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) are the lowest since 1999. So, while I’m not sure who lied to you and told you to expect public transportation in a major metropolitan city to be totally blissful and completely crime free but, I am sure that things are nowhere near as bad as you profess - otherwise you’d be recalling your own experience of getting your ass whupped instead of getting worked up into hysterics about someone else’s aberrant ordeal.

The person stating that slapping others in the back of the head and threatening with more bodily harm is cultural does NOT speak for the entire AA community. I am an AA mother and this is not considered normal behavior in our household or the manner in which my children know they are expected to behave out in public. Further, we don't know any AA families where this is taught in their homes or condoned. I understand there may be a knee jerk reaction to some of the sentiments being expressed here but please don't attempt to defend the indefensible by claiming this abhorrent behavior is cultural. Its simply not and you do a grave disservice to our community by stating otherwise.

Yep, another black mom here. Not "cultural" in the least. We've trained our young daughter to tell the teacher if someone hits her, for example. We don't want her getting labeled as violent at her private school.

I will say that I grew up in a non-affluent household with many black kids from working class backgrounds or who lived in the projects. Nonetheless, the poor black folks in DC are the most destitute and trauma-exposed I've ever encountered, so I'm not as surprised that stuff like this happens here among teens.

This is great, I am glad Metro is taking care evasion seriously because they are probably catching some.of the misbehaving teens causing problems.

Better yet, if Metro police nab violators for crimes, escort them on the train over the Potomac (once they're in and riding the system, who's to say where the fare evasion crime actually occurred?). Haul them out at the Pentagon or Rossyn and and book them and charge them in the Old Dominion.

That sounds like someone with a mental health issue. “White people jewelry” is not a concept I’ve heard of despite being AA for 47 years. “White people food” is a different matter. Maybe he was complaining, not about the carats on her finger, but the bunch of locally-sourced organic rainbow carrots in her reusable shopping bag? They are the most reviled symbol of gentrification.

In all seriousness, when a white person does something like that or even shoots up a black church, the assumption by whites is he or she is mentally ill. When the person is black, white people seem to forget mental illness even exists.

I grew up in inner city Baltimore. What was posted was not part of the culture and I’ve never heard anyone else claim it is.
