You can argue til you’re blue in the face about what attitude you consider more ethical but there’s no debating which approach is less perilous and at the end of the day that’s what is at the heart of this 9-page thread...personal safety.

If you wanna take a stand in inauspicious circumstances and criticize others for avoiding altercations while you confidently count on your white privilege to persistently protect you from peril - good luck.  I’m no statistician but I’m guessing 99 out of 100 people would gladly take the irrelevance of your disapproval over the injuries that accompany a beat down.[/quote]

And, I think the whole point of this thread is to point out that there are teens and young adults attacking people on Metro and there has been little to no response, law enforcement-wise. 
We can talk - til we're blue in the face - about how we should react when rowdy teens or obnoxious people enter your car on the metro. (if one even has a chance to react before one is randomly attacked)

I think the Metro Transit Police’s reaction should be continued.  Thus far this year they’ve made 1,446 Arrests, issued 6,061 Citations/Summonses, given 183 Written Warnings, and addressed 5,091 incidents of Fare Evasion.  I know the popular cynical stance is to assume nothing is being done but based on those numbers it doesn’t look like they’re sitting on their asses letting miscreants run amuck and all hell break loose to me.  And recent statistics have shown that serious crimes involving the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) are the lowest since 1999.  So, while I’m not sure who lied to you and told you to expect public transportation in a major metropolitan city to be totally blissful and completely crime free but, I am sure that things are nowhere near as bad as you profess - otherwise you’d be recalling your own experience of getting your ass whupped instead of getting worked up into hysterics about someone else’s aberrant ordeal.

This is great, I am glad Metro is taking care evasion seriously because they are probably catching some.of the misbehaving teens causing problems. [/quote]
