Yep, another black mom here.  Not "cultural" in the least.  We've trained our young daughter to tell the teacher if someone hits her, for example.  We don't want her getting labeled as violent at her private school.

I will say that I grew up in a non-affluent household with many black kids from working class backgrounds or who lived in the projects.  Nonetheless, the poor black folks in DC are the most destitute and trauma-exposed I've ever encountered, so I'm not as surprised that stuff like this happens here among teens.  [/quote]
