Mace and pepper sprays are illegal to carry in DC. It’s the exact same criminal charge as if you were caught carrying a gun.

Threats of violence and arguably assault (stepping on heels) are NOT just “kids goofing around”. Disgusting, and if I were on a jury there’s no way I’d convict someone who maced these people in this case.

What is someone supposed to do if a group of teens starts harassing them? Are we not supposed to fight back or physically defend ourselves with pepper spray because these are minors?

What did the woman do to the teen to prompt being hit and chased? Yeah, teens and kids are loud in the metro but they generally leave you alone. I can’t understand why a teen would jump someone unprovoked.

My Indian-American aunt was harassed by a bunch of African-American teen girls on the metro a few years back. Thankfully, she got down at the next station and took a later metro. Mainly because she did not want to escalate the situation. Such kind of group animalistic behavior has been experienced by many immigrants in their home countries where lawlessness runs rampant. We recognize it well when criminal behaviour and group frenzy start to happen and we remove ourselves from such situations. She would have done the same in UK if she saw a group of swastika tattooed skinheads harassing her. Race has nothing to do with it. Criminal behaviour only grows when there is no consequence.

Unfortunately, in DC there are no consequences to criminal behavior. I wish folks would take race out of the equation. The fact of the matter is DC pacifies criminals. Why is this allowed? People who walk around assaulting other people should be punished. I do not care what race or ethnicity you are. If you harm others, then you should suffer the consequences of your actions. People should be able to ride the metro without worrying about being attack. If criminals do not face consequences for their negative behavior, then that is a problem in a civil society. Safety should be a priority on the metro.

There are lots of feral children in the summer, no supervision and too much time on their hands... This is another reason why DC is no place to live or raise kids.
