Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
Yup. |
It's quite obvious but, hey, welcome to America 2019. |
| What exactly is the proposed sports policy? |
Though I don’t agree with them in many ways, I don’t blame them for wanting to remain anonymous. The harassment that would be directed at them personally would be over the top by this so-called tolerant and inclusive Arlington. They deserve to be heard whether you agree with them or not. |

Transgender kids deserve love and respect.
APS parents deserve answers to legitimate questions about the long-term implications of policy changes that will impact all future students in one way or another. Neither group should be belittled. |
Physical Education Classes and Intramural and Interscholastic Athletics All students shall be permitted to participate in physical education classes and intramural sports in a manner consistent with their gender identity. Furthermore, all students shall be permitted to participate in interscholastic athletics in a manner consistent with their gender identity, under the guidelines established by the state interscholastic association. |
+1. Believe it or not, this is not mutually exclusive. You can feel both ways. I realize there is nuance and I’m willing to bet that a lot of parents inwardly do too, but are scared to admit that publicly. |
I am in favor of all of the policy changes aside from this one. This I will fight, and I predict that I will be in good company. APS better think hard about this one. |
Thanks. Please fight for girls and for women sports! |
I see this living in Arlington all the time. Tolerant and inclusive, but only if you align exactly with me. And if not, you’re definitely an -ist. Not sure which one, but definitely one. |
That’s the language of the Virginia proposed policy or the GLSEN sample policy? |
Agreed. The vitriol I have seen in response to this group in other forums mades me hesitant to say anything, not because I necessarily agree with what the group is saying, but even those who want to understand the real concerns are being tossed in with the "hate group". I 100% think the sports policy is wrong. I'm not sure how I let APS know that, though, w/o being thrown to the wolves. |
This is spot on. |
This is quite the position to take when you won’t even have a discussion. |
+1. I’m against XY girls competing against XX girls in interscholastic sports/competitions. I’m not sure I have the same concerns about more club/intramural settings. But I know saying such things publicly will result in villification and public shaming. I think it’ll take a long time for this to get sorted out in a way that’s fair to XX girls and women because so many transrights supporters don’t see any room for nuance or role for science to play here. |
