There is a lot we can do or at least try:
-Implementation of a safe third country agreement with Mexico
-Put judges on the border/have them conduct the initial interview instead of BP. Most fail to get asylum so if they make the initial interview more stringent we will spend less money for these people moving through an asylum system they will ultimately fail
-no release into the interior of the country while your case is being heard, no granting of work visas unless you are granted asylum
- if they have been released previously, have law enforcement check on them at the address listed. Chances are they are staying with their illegal aunt/uncle/cousin/sibling/parent
- drones, facial recognition at the border

And finally... a physical barrier to keep them out in the first place

Why didn't the GOP start to implement any of this aggresively during the two years they had complete control? They instead chose to pass the tax cut and try to derail Obamacare. It's funny how the the border issue suddenly became an "emergency" once it became clear the Democrats were going to take back the House.

Not true. This administration started from day one to implement tighter border security.

Again. What are your brilliant ideas to address this crisis? I haven't seen a single one.

They didn't have "complete control." Many of the above ideas require a minimum 60 vote in the Senate. They didn't have that.

This is an understatement.
In 1947, the US determined who was granted entry in the US. That is not the case today. Estimates are there are upward of 16 million illegal aliens in the US. Some estimates are as high as 22 million. Of course, with our laws the way they are.... we aren't even able to come up with a reasonable, accurate estimate.

In 1947 my Asian family would not have been allowed to immigrate here due to quotas from "undesirable" countries. Lots of Trump supporters seem to want to go back to the quota system.

DP, no... that was not *ALWAYS* the plan. Trump only *ever* mentioned the wall, and that MX would pay for it. After much derision from even his own party members about MX paying for the wall, and other border security experts and Dems stating that we need high tech and more personnel, that is when Trump's tune changed.

Exactly. This is the line that CNN and MSNBC have been pushing. "The wall" is all they talk about even though tech and personnel have been included from the beginning.

You should study how the US immigration system works. There are now per-country ceilings for how many immigrants are allowed in. This is a de facto quota system as many of the countries like India hit their ceiling fairly easily due to the large number of immigrants. There is also the diversity visa program which grants visas at random to countries that are under-represented in US immigrant demographics, again a pure quota system. So quotas already exist in the US immigration system, you now need to decide whether you are for or against quotas that are not based on merit but the home country of the immigrant. As a Trump supporter I don't want quotas like these, I prefer a more purely merit based system.
