Yes, typically the doctor sees you during morning rounds and won't return until the next day's rounds unless something changes in your condition that warrants them coming back sooner. It doesn't mean they forgot about you- they monitor your bloodwork and check on your vital signs etc that the nurse checks. |
Op here. Thanks. This is my first time being here. I have given birth in the US but have never been admitted for something else. The infectious disease doctor did not say see you in the morning or anything like that. I assumed he would come back and check on me throughout the day. |
Once a day is standard. The nurses are reporting any change in vitals/condition, any lab or imaging work that comes in, etc. If the MD comes back to see you 9 times.out of 10 it's because the nurse has told them to. I've lost track of how many times doctors have told me my patients were lucky I was so diligent because I've caught things before they become major issues and have alerted the doctors. Even as a nurse, I sometimes find it scary how we are the main point for patient care. I've worked with some truly awful nurses |
| The problem is doctors do rounds in the morning often time before visiting hours even start. Everyone who is hospitalized benefits from having someone at their bedside when the doctor is doing rounds so they can ask questions and get into. |
I can’t say THIS enough to this comment. I learned it the hardway. OP, if your husband is going home to sleep at night, please tell him he has to be there one hour before rounds (so he doesn’t get stuck in traffic, have parking problems, etc). You need the support. It’s extremely hard to digest what they are saying about you and then be able to come up with the right questions. If anything has been bothering you today, write a note in your phone now so you don’t forget. |

See the thread and Jeff's opinion on whether OP is a troll.

Are you a nurse at an accredited hospital? An admitted patient can not assume sole care of a child. Particularly a sick child. The dad can be there helping the child if she's not admitted, and if admitted, the child would be in the peds wing, not in the OP's room. |
She said she's new to Miami. It sounds like she moved from Atlanta. |
You are the OP sockpuppeting. You claimed to be in Atlanta on Thursday and to have been in a hotel for 12 days. |
| OP, where is your DH and is he helping with your sick child? |
|
Yup, it sucks, but there are people out there who abuse the time and goodwill of others. |
Well hopefully the person who was calling the OP’s story into question early on, is doing victory laps now. |
There were many people calling OP's story into question early on. It was not very logical. |
Op here. I am not a troll. I sent a picture of my hospital room earlier! I did post about apartment help and I said Atlanta to remain anonymous. We have only been in Miami for less than 2 weeks. We do have an apartment but obviously I am not there. I am still in the hospital. If you want to believe I am a troll that's fine. Thanks to the people who have supported me through this. It has not been easy being away from my son at night. He's sick and I cannot be there with him. |
