Are you entitled to see a doctor if you're at the ER?

OP’s posts were so specific, and began by focusing on the insurance issue; I don’t think she’s a troll.

OP, I think it’s the same 1-2 posters who are attacking you.

Op here. This is a picture of my room. You can see the date is 2/25. There are some sick minded people on this forum.

Take care OP!

Sorry some people are total jerks.

As someone who works for an insurerer there is no way that your husband chose a plan in the last few days (according to your post) and you have a card in hand at the hospital. Being retroactive, sure, but your story is odd. It takes at least 7 days to get a card to a policy holder.

At 11am in the morning on a Monday no less. Man those postal carriers in Miami are efficient!

You sound dumb to be a health insurance agent but aren't they all? Have you heard of a temporary health insurance ID card. You can login online and print it out. My HR gave me online access to do this the day I selected a plan.

With a recent untreated UTI and a high fever, I would think kidney infection. That happened to me and fever was 104+, requiring IV antibiotics at the hospital. Of course that doesn't explain the 3-year old with fever...

OP I’m wishing you well. I’m so glad the insurance thing got sorted out. That must be a big relief.

The kid could have a different bug. Hopefully by now OP’s UTI is well under control so that a kidney infection or something else UTI related can be ruled out.

I haven’t had a chance to read through the other threads. Did OP and her son get the Typhoid vaccine before their trip?

OMG what a bunch of nasty people with sad, boring lives and nothing better to do.

Hope you and your child feel better soon, OP.

I was one of the posters questioning OP's self diagnosed life threatening flu in the beginning of this thread and her demands to see a doctor. It just seemed so entitled and self centered.

Then I read through the other threads that she posted and found this little nugget:

----------------
OP here. I wanted my husband to tell HR which plan we were going to go with today. He's been so casual about everything. My fever is back now. I will go to the ER tomorrow.
I wish I had more support from my husband. He can be such a dick.
----------------

I do hope you get better OP. No one wishes you any harm or anything but good health.

But please, look beyond your own self and don't cry wolf to get attention. Your DH seems like he's had to put up with a lot and I empathize more with him than I do with you.

I do hope that you and your child feel better soon.

Op here. I haven't seen a doctor since 8 am this morning. I saw the infectious disease doctor and an obgyn. The ongyn only asked me what happened and left after I gave the response. The infectious disease doctor said he suspect's typhoid fever. I was waiting all day long for another doctor to come but no one came. 9 hours later I ask the nurse why I haven't seen a doctor. He says it's standard in the hospital to see the doctor once a day? Can anyone tell me if this is true? He said tomorrow morning the doctor will look at my blood work and hopefully determine if the antibiotics are working. They still cannot confirm that I have typhoid. Right now all they know is it's bacteria.

So you think they're going to kick out OPs child? I am sure it's not the first time a child has came to the hospital with a parent. If OP is new to a city she won't have childcare yet.

The child is sick too! She shouldn't need childcare because the child should be being taken care of by the hospital staff if he is also under suspicion of having Typhoid as she says he is.

Then the child would be on the pediatric unit! As a patient! Not hanging out in OP's room.

Op here. Have you ever been to the hospital? Is the doctor with you 247? There's lots of free time. I can't sleep because I have to take care of my 3 year old and the IVs make it uncomfortable. I did see an infectious disease specialist this morning. He's currently mointoring my test results. I am so tired of people calling troll. Some of you must have pretty miserable lives if you need to be nasty to a sick person.

OP, I agree that PP's post is puzzling. There is a lot of down time in hospitals.

Why is your 3 year old with you for you to care for????? I wouldn't even think that would be allowed considering you have to occasionally have tests done, etc and he can't exactly come into the radiology suite with you.

So you think they're going to kick out OPs child? I am sure it's not the first time a child has came to the hospital with a parent. If OP is new to a city she won't have childcare yet.

Hospitals aren't daycare centers. If she were admitted for an infectious disease, the father would be expected to come take the child. And then the nurses would call social services if that weren't possible. More evidence that this is a troll post. Good riddance OP.

Nurse here. Are you on drugs? The nurse's do not call social services. Children can be in the hospital with a parent. OP does not have Ebola.

I am also a nurse, and a toddler can definitely NOT live in with a parent who is admitted to the unit. Can they visit? Absolutely! Can they move in and stay in the room with the parent, as the parent acts as the primary caregiver for the child during their hospitalization, as OP claims to be doing? No!!!

Pretty typical. Is it a smaller hospital? Some big teaching hospitals might do evening rounds but you are probably past time for that. The nurses are able to get in touch with the doctor for any changes to your vital signs (fever, blood pressure, pulse) and they’ll be able to see any new blood test results that come in and contact the doctor if it is urgent. If you are not American I know this can seem like a shock. Try and trust the nurses and let them know how you are feeling medically. Is your son still with you? Is he also admitted?
