How long have you lived in "Dee-Cee"? The disbursement from the constituent service fund will result in a slap on the wrist at most. The more that the Post, Jewish organizations, others are 'on his ass', the more Trayon's base will see him as standing up to the Man. We've seen this playbook run in Ward 8 before.

DP. What are you saying? That if Jews stand up to an antisemite, the voters in Ward 8 dig in their heels? It sounds as if you're saying that there is so much hostility toward Jews from Ward 8 poor blacks (be honest.....that's who lives in Ward 8) that they'll WANT to keep the antisemite in office.

White is not out doing overtly anti-Semitic things. For instance, he is not marching in Charlottesville yelling, "Jews will not replace us". Rather, he made an ignorant statement that he didn't know had anti-Semitic implications and for which he apologized. His supporters don't see "Jews standing up to an anti-Semite", but rather people who have never been involved in helping Ward 8 launching unfair attacks on their Council Member. You may not agree with their perspective, and I don't, but it is still their perspective whether you agree with it or not. Ward 8 residents will not increase their support for White because they are hostile to Jews, but because like most people, they resent attacks by outsiders.

Jeff you're making way too much sense for these assholes , if there's a demographic in this country that really needs to be extremely careful it's Jews . As America becomes increasingly less white , this sort of faux controversy will not move anyone . It's beyond obvious that the anti Semitic implication of Mr white comments wasn't what the 'tribe' makesnit out to be and yet .....

OMG. The disdain you have for the "the tribe" is just dripping antisemitism. nice way to prove the point.

I actually don't care what happens with Trayon White as an individual. What I would like is recognition that anti-semitism among people of color is on the rise, with the cause of the Palestinians a convenient cover for those accusations. For American Jews, it increasingly feels like (mostly mild, "all Jews are like this") anti-semitism is ok on the left and the right. It's alarming.

When you combine it with the rise in real anti-Jewish hate crimes here and around the world, Jews aren't sure what to think. It certainly feels like Jews are the last group anyone wants to defend ...

Thank you. And FTR, your post is not from the "prominent poster" to whom Jeff referred, as I believe that would be me.

And what you are saying is exactly the point I keep trying to make.....the message that antisemitism isn't that bad, or certainly it's not as bad as relgious prejudice against Muslims or racial prejudice against blacks. That's why we see all this pretzel-twisting to explain it away.

I too have been appalled by how unwilling (some) liberals are to admit that one of their council members is repeatedly demonstrating antisemtitic attitudes. Excuses after excuse. Just call it like it is: the guy is antisemtitic, and too stupid apparently to learn from his revelation of it.

Could you provide proof of your assertion before asking for any sort of recognition ?

Lots more if you Google. I chose these three because they came up early in the search and are reputable news sources.

The problem with your statistics - and I'm in agreement with you - is that liberals will blame overt antisemtitic attacks assaults all on Trump, while they concurrently send the message that antisemtitic attitudes, as opposed to outright vandalism, isn't that big a deal. What they fail to realize is that the tacit acceptance of antisemtitic attitudes - including the apparently pervasive messaging that anti-Semtitic attitudes aren't all that bad as long as you're not vandalizing Jewish property - is playing into it.

As an American Jew, I don't know where to turn. There is an extreme fringe group of antisemties on the right, and a more subtle but more pervasive form of antisemitism on the left.

I don't agree with your assertion. There is actually no evidence that White has "repeatedly" demonstrated anti-Semitic attitudes. He made a moronic statement that he didn't know had anti-Semitic implications. The fact that you are twisting his visit to the Holocaust museum into an act of anti-Semitism is beyond ridiculous. Finally, the contribution to the NOI -- which preceded all of this -- is potentially illegal and certainly inappropriate but not an obvious act of anti-Semitism given the role the NOI plays in Ward 8.

You are exaggerating and stretching the truth in ways that are counterproductive.

Wow, that's pretty extreme. Jews better be careful as the country's demographics change. They better know their place and keep their mouth shut? Or what? Ostracization? Violence?

This is exactly right. Surely we are hypersensitive because the Holocaust happened in living memory, in Europe (and facilitated by the same sort of "no big deal," "not my problem" folks in the US), and yet everyone keeps acting like nothing bad could ever happen to a relatively wealthy, well-educated, assimilated population of white people who happen to be Jewish ...

When you start to feel like you've lost all of your allies, it's a frightening feeling.

It is possible to both be appalled by White and the rise in antisemitism in this country AND appalled by Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians.

Of course it is. But in a lot of cases in progressive groups recently, no one cares to make that nuance clear, and instead we get Jews = Zionists = anti-Palestinians = bad. This is systemic anti-semitism: you find a legitimate beef about an issue that involves Jews, and use it to feel ok about yur dislike of Jews in general.

It's the same as throwing out the NOI for Farakhan. You can condemn Farakhan's anti-semitism while recognizing all the good the NOI does, but one has to admit that a lot of people use their dislike of Farakhan as an easy way to dismiss the group as a whole, which I would consider a systemically racist response to the NOI.
