Ed Gillespie Attack Ad

Anonymous
This is VA. Where a car did run down and kill a woman for opposing the KKK, if you remember. Our President came out and said some members of the group that killed the young women— and a VA citizen—were “very fine people”.

Gillespie has now decided to cosy up to Trump. Who defended a racist who used a car to mow down one of our citizens. Gillespie could have come out and said he didn’t want the endorsement of someone who repeatedly failed to condemn the KKK and Heather Heyer’s killers. He chose not to. I am 100% okay with this ad. In the wake of Charlottesville, it is fair to say that racists with confederate flags are mowing down Virginia citizens. And next time the KKK rallies and there is violence, I do not want our governor to be someone who would refuse to condemn the murder of a young woman.

NPR did a segment on this ad. And it is apparently playing very well well with minorities, but also women and moderates. A lot of us want to take our state back from the “very fine people” who killed Heather Hayer. I know I do.

Based on people I know personally - and here on DCUM - the more recklessly someone throws around the word "racist," the more hypocritical and sanctimonious they are.

In my kids' elementary and middle schools, they have had to ban the word "racist" as it has become such a constant accusation, exclaimed in any and every situation, most of which have nothing to do with racism. The word has become meaningless and honestly, a joke, because of its misuse and overuse.

Wait a second. They do not let children in an ES and an MS say the word racist? Seriously? Where do you live, in Alabama? Not to mention that that is likely illegal.

Okay, I exaggerated when I said it was banned. The teachers in my kids' classes, last year and now again this year, have had to tell kids to stop shouting our "RACIST!" all the time as it had become obnoxious and out of control.

This is good advice and I'll take it. Similarly, if liberals would stop calling every conservative a racist, people would be a lot less likely to Half of all Americans (give or take) are not racists.

Half the people who a racist are too stupid to realize that they are perceived as racist by actual minorities. To many actual bigots, they falsely equate racism with the KKK and burning crosses. The rest of us realize it way more subtle than that. At least the KKK is honest enough to openly own their racism.

Why? If Latinos truly feel threatened by a candidate & his policies then I think their voices should be heard.

It's not hard to understand why they'd feel that way:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2017/10/26/a-10-year-old-immigrant-was-rushed-to-the-hospital-in-an-ambulance-she-was-detained-on-the-way/

Nobody is saying their voices cannot be heard. This ad is unacceptable. It is inflammatory and blatantly false.
And, I think it will backfire on the Dems.

It is false that racists and white supremacists support Gillespie? Really?

Racists and white supremacists support Gillespie. Therefore, everyone who supports Gillespie is a racist or a white supremacist. Right? That's how I learned it in school.

No, but if you don't want to be called a racist and a white supremacist you have to stop taking support from racist and white supremacist. This "wink, wink, nod, nod" crap is getting a little old.

I'm not a politician, so I don't take support from anyone. As a citizen, however, I'm not going to align myself with Democrats when I don't agree with many of their positions, and I'm sickened by their identity politics. So, I guess I'll just stay a Republican, disavow racism, live my life as a good person, and know that being a Republican, like I have been my entire adult life, does not suddenly make me a racist. And if you feel you need to, then go ahead and continue claiming that it does.

So you'll disavow Democrats because you "don't agree with many of their positions" but will stay a Republican DESPITE their racist policies and positions. Yeah, that makes a shit ton of sense. Good luck with the mental gymnastics.

It makes a lot of sense once you realize it's not despite those policies and positions but because of them.

How do you know that? If you honestly believe that all conservatives are racists, then you are delusional. If it's a fact that half of all Americans are raging racists, then we as a country are effed up. God, you must live in complete despair. I'm so sorry.

I don’t think all conservatives are racist. But everyone who still supports Trump after all that has happened most certainly is. 100%.

I do not support Trump, and I didn't say that I did. You might want to watch how freely you go around accusing everyone of being a racist. You're not doing yourself any favors.

This isn’t about you. This is about Gillespie. He supports Trump. Ergo, he is racist.

I have an easy remedy for you: Don't demonize people because of the color of their skin, and you won't be despised.

And, for you. Don’t assume that others demonize people for the color of their skin. In fact, don’t assume that others demonize people at all.
It will serve you well in life.

I don't have to look any further than this thread to see people demonize others because of the color of their skin.

+1. People with poor morals giving money to X's campaign does not make X a racist (and btw they don't necessarily pay that much attention to the source of donations unless something comes to their attention, which generally happens after the fact - and terrible people donate to all politicians. They don't have secret dossiers on every campaign donor and often learn the news when the rest of the public does). People supporting the racist policies of Y, on the other hand, are racist in their actions. That's the difference.
