I don't even know if we want it. What say you, Swami?

Swami says you will not be of those that DCUM would consider lucky. Your waitlist numbers will range from 40 to 280s. You will watch your H-A number shoot down quicker than most, but will end up having a great year at Langley. You will join in the chorus of happy Bloomingdale moms who sing Langley's praises... for one year.

PP, we'd love to have you at Langley. Not trying to oversell it, but PK3 has been a good experience and we would be fine with staying for PK4. I think we are making a lot of progress. --A Bloomingdale mom.

We've heard great things from around the hood this year! And while I agree with Swami in terms of the overall sentiment, it's worth noting that Bloomingdale has only been fully zoned into Langley for one year. So past isn't prologue.

Bloomingdale/Eckington/Edgewood is close to so many HRCS that a neighborhood school has an uphill battle. But it definitely seems like progress is happening. In 10 years time I think Langley will look very different.

Swami says you will have a pretty terrible number and feel relieved you won't have to make a hard decision.

Playing lottery for PK4. We are having a good PK3 year at our IB, Bruce Monroe. Can/will stay through first grade, but not beyond, so we're testing the waters for next year at:
1. IT
2. CMI
3. Lee

Given our political affiliation and the administration, neither my partner nor I are confident we'll have jobs come the start of the next school year, so we're just giving the wheel a spin, happy to stay put or get into one of our top three. And eff it, might be out of here within a year anyway.

Swami says jump in, the water is nice. You will get into ITS, wonder if you should have ranked CMI higher for the easier commute, but be all in... until you decide to quit the DC rat race for good and move back where you have better family and friend support.

We are moving to the area this summer and WOA- I have no idea what direction to take. Any help would be much appreciated! Here is our situation:
PK4 and 3rd grader next fall
Both have been in public Montessori previously and had amazing experiences.
We might be able to swing rent in Ward 3 so that may put us in bounds for some decent schools but I would love to keep the kids in Montessori or Montessori like schools.

We are awaiting an offer for my husband's job so after that we could nail down a rental somewhere in Ward 3 or Ward 4....

And I don't know what to do this summer either?

I'm not entirely sure but this may not be the right thread for you. I think the Swami needs your list...not general super broad questions.

Hi PP-(not the swami)

If you decide to move, call the MySchoolDC lottery office right away and they can tell you how to apply for schools in the post-lottery period (starts April 1).

Getting into a public or public charter Montessori preschool program will be hard because they are quite popular, and you are applying after the initial lottery.

As for Ward 3 traditional schools, most do not offer PreK 3. All PreK3 and PreK 4 seats are allocated by lottery, whether you are inbounds for the school or not.

Good luck with the job search and move decision.

.

Your third grader will be accepted at your inbounds school. Your prek4 is not guaranteed entry at your inbounds school and they will go at the end of any list since you haven't applied for the lottery.

Yes, its a city-wide charter. They "require" prior Montessori experience, so I can imagine the WL isn't long for 3rd grade (same for SSMA, I don't know about Lee)

It's a city-wide DCPS, not a charter school.
