Guessing this is lottery too!? I feel so bummed right now...

Thanks for your help!

Genuine question: Are there a lot of places where you can just be guaranteed entry to a public Montessori? I didn't even know there were a lot of places WITH public Montessoris. I'm kind of surprised you're bummed about the options in DC given that you knew you were moving and DC has way more public Montessori options than most places I've ever heard of (and there are obviously loads of private Montessori options as well).

You aren't guaranteed a spot until K. If you move, you may need to find a day care or a preschool you need to pay for. All of you choices will have long waitlist a.

Rest of list is:
Murch

Thomson
J.O. Wilson
Marie Reed
Hyde-Addison

Why is J.O. Wilson on this list? That commute would be crazy.

It's near both my and DH's work.

PK4 and 3rd grader next fall
Both have been in public Montessori previously and had amazing experiences.
We might be able to swing rent in Ward 3 so that may put us in bounds for some decent schools but I would love to keep the kids in Montessori or Montessori like schools.

We are awaiting an offer for my husband's job so after that we could nail down a rental somewhere in Ward 3 or Ward 4....

And I don't know what to do this summer either?

OP, I would reach out to the schools you want to move inbounds for to send your 3rd grader. Tell each school you're moving to DC this summer and you're in the process of finding a rental in that boundary. They might be able to accommodate your PK4 child if you're inboundary and the 3rd grader is going there. This will only work if they have spots for all IB PK4 students, not if there are IB PK4 students who are on the waiting list. You'll need to actually have the rental secured for this to even work, but reach out to them now. This could inform you which schools will accommodate you so you move into that boundary. Principals are much more accommodating for IB students with siblings at the school (or at least they were a few years back, not sure about now).

This is not true. The school can't 'accommodate' someone just because they want to. You must apply for your Pk4 student through MYDC in the post lottery period.

But, it is in your interest to formally enroll your older child as soon as possible. Then even though your PK4 child will be entering the lottery late, they will be ahead of some of the other people on the waiting list (presuming there is one).

Call the MySchoolDC staff. They are helpful and knowledgeable. Don't blindly trust what people (even me) are telling you here

Swami says you will get a good number, most of yours will be under 40, but you will only receive an offer from TR:Y, and not until later in the process.

Swami says order the good stuff... someone has to be lucky and you are one of those. Swami isn't sure what that looks like yet other than you will definitely be in West, Swami thinks maybe even Haynes on lottery day. Swami also things you will pour one out for the way you ordered your lottery list because you aren't sure you did it right.
