Our nanny sets the table for dinner during nap time. It's just to give us one less thing to do. You are assuming facts not in evidence. They're probably just trying to help you but you could just be direct and ask
"Is your setting the table at 4pm a subtle hint that you'd like to eat dinner earlier than we did yesterday?" Then you'd know for sure.
And it's not that hard to gather up all the plates. I am not sure why YOU are portioning out everyone ELSE'S food in the kitchen. Everyone should be able to just take what they want.
