If willing to venture south of the Mason Dixon, check out Rhodes and Sewanee.

Our DC looked at Kenyon and Oberlin and others. Chose Vassar. Very supportive, friendly place with excellent academics, very attentive professors, gorgeous campus. Cost is on par with Kenyon's. Worth a visit--it was a visit that decided my DC though Vassar was not on our radar at all before we stopped by while seeing other schools.

Carleton?

My niece now at Kenyon loved Carlton as well.

Check out Gettysburg. It may not be quite where Kenyon is academically, but has a similar vibe, though a bit more Greek. It is rising in the rankings and I believe there is lots of overlap in terms of applicants. It also has the benefit of being not in the middle of nowhere.

Full price is similar but only Kenyon offers merit aid.

There is a real effort to become more racially and economically diverse. Being in the middle of Trump territory makes some URM wary, but the school has no problem with attracting international students.

We visited this summer and still saw Trump signs littering people's yards!

In Ohio, not in Kenyon. Trust me, Kenyon is not full of Trumpsters. It is a VERY different vibe. Kenyon is committed to increasing diversity on campus: https://forward.kenyon.edu/stories/story/announcing-the-kenyon-access-initiative/ My kid is there and trust me, we are not a 1 percenter family, and my kid is very happy there.

Heck, there are still Trump signs in the Hamptons.

My daughter is a freshman this year and is having a great experience so far! She is an athlete and writer who loves nature so it’s pretty perfect for her. It’s true that this class is very over enrolled - I think close to 650 freshmen when they usually have 500.

One thing I will say is that while my daughter has a lot of non-athlete friends there is a bit of a divide between athletes and non athletes on campus. I feel like this happens a lot at SLACs though since my older child attended a similar school as a non-athlete and claims she never met any “sports people” LOL. That being said, it’s a pretty diverse place with strong academics and a really cute little town. My daughter doesn’t care that it’s remote even though she was concerned at first.

Also a random thing but Kenyon has a lot of campus cats who love the students. My daughter is so happy about that because she misses her cat at school. She carries treats with her every day for her Kenyon cats.

This, exactly, is what turned off my DC. Not into sports at all and the divide on campus was readily apparent.

NARP.

Non-Athletic, Regular Person.

That's a term used at most SLACs.

Campus cats - so cute!

Do you mind sharing your DD's gpa/test score? Know too much to ask for HS but if you can do "MoCo W" or "Big 3/4/5" would be appreciated.

DC interested, but am worried that overenrollment at many schools is going to have negative implications for HS Class of '22.

Kenyon also is very open to having dogs around campus, from the HOS down to a student, from office, to classrooms to the dorms. Lots of Instagram accounts for the various pups traipsing through Middle Path!
