Holiday Inn Express in Mt Vernon is 5 minutes from campus. They've done a great job with Covid precautions.

We try to stay at the Kenyon Inn if possible because it's nice to be able to walk right onto campus. There's also a B&B right next to campus that I've looked at which seems nice. For freshman move in and orientation we're staying at Kenyon Inn though.

Kenyon Inn is definitely convenient -- we also stayed there for move-in, but that was pre-Covid. It's possible that the inn is closed at this time.

Kenyon Inn is open. Gambier could definitely use another place to stay for families and others. Pre-pandemic the Inn filled up quickly for big events.

Yes it’s open and I just called last week to book for orientation. The B&B is called Rogan House.

Holiday Inn is convenient. But I'd add the Grand Hotel, also in Mt. Vernon, as a good place to say for visiting Kenyonites.

They turned the Kenyon Inn into a dorm.

As long as this old post has come back to life, any suggestions for other schools to look at for a kid who liked Kenyon? Just a nice, studious kid who liked the small and seemingly supportive atmosphere.

Denison if your kid prefers slightly preppier. Oberlin if not.

Really? You can still make a reservation on the website. But I did hear Kenyon was way overenrolled. My DD almost went there. We thought it was delightful when we visited. In the end, she was considering polar opposites, Kenyon and U Michigan. She chose U Michigan, and it's the right choice for her.

Anonymous wrote:I remember visiting - its teeny and there was no town to speak of. The college post office was the town post office. If I was sometime who thought I'd want to live a NYC life long term, Kenyon might feel isolating. Many similarly selective LACs are in actual towns or cities (Macalester, Colorado College, etc...). There is something to be said for that magical bubble of a college experience, but I'd think hard.

+100 Very remote indeed. Not for everyone to say the least.

I am interested in additional recs - we looked at those but strongly preferred Kenyon. Location open. Thanks!
