| Op here... Me and the landlord text. He's gotten two letters and doesn't care. I'm a good tenant. Pay rent on time and am courteous and kind to residents. I have tons of friends in the building and some that own. No one has issue with us except for the manager and the board pres who has a problem with EVERYONE. |
You may think you are a great tenant but clearly others don't think so. You are not kind and courteous to other residents if they are complaining about you. You are inconsiderate to put up your own lock, monopolize the pool with lawn chairs (seriously who does that), leave finger prints everywhere without cleaning them. |
| There are many landlords like OP's, so she may be right that he doesn't care and wants to minimize his involvement with her (can't imagine why). As long as she pays her rent on time, that is all that matters. He is leaving her to the management company and the board to deal with. She is honestly not very important to either the board or the management company. As long as she limits her actions to the occasional small violation of the rules, they will be cool with her. It is very much a don't rock the boat mentality among condo managers. Tenants like OP are more trouble than they are worth. She has her panties in a twist, but no one except the posters on this board are interested. |
| Lawn chair once and not one single person was at the pool. I didn't do it ever again after told not to. The finger prints was over a year ago. No one says anything but kind words about us except for the manager and board pres. Why would you say that we are bad tenants? |
| DCRA will come out at the request of renters. A violation is a violation and they consider renters in condos first party. She could absolutely report them for their roof top gate if it unlocked as described. They would probably come fast too for something like that. You don't want to be on DCRA's radar. It sucks. |
She'd be on the top of the list no matter what since her good friend works there...

Was there a lifeguard at the pool? If not, that is a problem. |
| No lifeguard on duty. |
|
The board could never get this family evicted. It's almost impossible to evict in DC. I had someone renting my condo and they had noise violation after noise violation and I couldn't get them out. DC law protects renters.
Just ignore the manager and as others suggested simply tell them not to talk to you and talk to your landlord. Buildings in upper NW with a lot of seniors especially, hate children. I think they hate children more than young people who throw parties. For some reason even the quietest of families upset residents. Don't move to van ness. They really don't like children in their buildings. |
| What does it matter if OPs building has a lifeguard or not? |
Sure, fingerprint mark on glass by a 2-year old means willful vandalization. You're such a drama queen. |
| Right! People are crazy! Fingerprints= vandalism. Come on! That's a stretch. |
| I am loving this thread |
LOL. Which side of this are you on? Kids are a menace and should be seen and not heard, or the board is a menace? |
| Op's side! I think her building would like her to keep her kid in a cage and when they HAVE to take him out he should wear a muzzle so he doesn't make a sound. He should be on a leash so OP can hold him back from touching a wall, window, washing machine, dryer, etc. I think this building manager and board sounds awful. Give'em hell OP! |
