Allotting rooms at beach house - should aunt have to share room with four year old?

Anonymous
PP, isn't it disgusting? And predictable? I can't see any way I can go this year without being mentally exhausted. In a way I want to participate, but in the end, year after year, its just not worth it. Even if I don't engage.

Someone needs to write a book on this. It seems there are some insecure SILs and MILs out there looking for a target in their family. In DHs case, it switched from him to me. Can you say crazy?

What should the book be called??

SILs and no Sensibility
Family Life's a beach
War and Beach
No Country for old MILs
The Currituck Sound and the Fury

Yet when they had kids the same age (they are older than us) it was ALL about their kids! Its pretty disgusting to watch. Now, we are supposed to still cowtow to them somehow. No thanks, I'll stay home.

I still have nightmares about how the SILs leave early and leave us to clean up the GD house after them. Or how each and every time they try to crowd us out of the tent at the beach. Or just basically act like assholes the whole week.

Oh gee, sign me up. Can I???!!! UGH.

I thought I was the only family that had this issue. My SIL likes to leave early to beat the traffic. ummm - clean up your crap - I don't want the food you purchased and did not use - and don't want to clean it up. I would also like to beat the traffic.

My DH tried that once. Left me with the whole house and two toddlers. I early killed him !

This happens to us a lot too, at our inlaw's lake house (others leaving early and not cleaning up after themselves or helping with any of the chores). If they say anything, they say "oh, we'll leave our food in the fridge for you all to eat!" not getting that really, it's just extra food we have to either throw away or slop home in watery coolers. Or "we'll leave the rafts and noodles for you to enjoy," meaning we have to trudge them up to the boat house and find someplace to store them. More work for us!

Alas, I've just embarrassed myself with this complaint. Wahh, poor me, we have a lake house to use when we want, and people give us food and water toys!

PP, not embarrassing. If anyone should be embarrassed, its the LAZY in laws! They are not fooling anyone with their "oh its for you" BS. Please, don't do me any "favors".

Honestly, I think you should just say, "thanks, but no, we don't need the food. Please throw it out." Or "we will not use the noodles so would prefer you it them back before you leave."

+1 I even say that I don't want to carry more stuff up or back home. I tell them to take back what they brought. That it the standing rule in our family.

I was hoping OP was checking after her beach week. We're dying to know if she got her own room or her sister managed to get 3 rooms of the beach house.

This must be the first time in the history of DCUM that people have been so unanimous. Please, please show your sister this thread.

And do update us!!
