Allotting rooms at beach house - should aunt have to share room with four year old?

Anonymous
A two year old and a four year old can't share a room on vacation at the beach? Don't give in. Do it like a guy would, just say no. Do not give reasons or talk it out...it's just no, go get a beer and turn on the tv. Done.

We should start a "how to avoid the PA SIL" thread

I have to know what happened here... OP, please tell us!

I would love it if us moms got together at our own beach house and did whatever without the ILs baggage. Now THAT would be a vacation!

If you want your own room, get a hotel. This is a family vacation and you'll have to take one for the family. Besides, you might have fun spending time with the 4-year-old.

So why doesn't the sister have to "take one for the family" by taking care of her own child?

Why don't the put the children up in a hotel so they all have their own rooms?

OP, echoing the calls for an update! Hope you've stood up for yourself!

You must be the evil sister trying to schlep her kid off onto OP.

+ No kid baggage. THAT would be heaven!

OR we could somehow mandate that all SILs have to be subject to each others passive aggressions for a week or two. Or simply have them treat each other as they treated their brothers wife for the last decade or so: "SHE does this, SHE does that, SHE is not from here".... It could be a new reality and/or game show! Hidden cameras everywhere

"How not to welcome the new person in to the family"...

OP! Can you give an update? Did you stand up to your sis? Did she back down, or is she still being absurdly selfish?

I could maybe see this if it was a tiny house where everyone was doubling up (e.g one bedrpom per nuclear family but one family had 3 kids and just didn't fit so one bunked with auntie.) Or maybe if the family wity kids was paying and auntie was getting a free trip. I slept with someone's kid once but they paid me to come along and babysit.

I would pay anyone who helped me with my kids during vacation! The ILs pretend they don't exist. Yet when they had kids the same age (they are older than us) it was ALL about their kids! Its pretty disgusting to watch. Now, we are supposed to still cowtow to them somehow. No thanks, I'll stay home.

I still have nightmares about how the SILs leave early and leave us to clean up the GD house after them. Or how each and every time they try to crowd us out of the tent at the beach. Or just basically act like assholes the whole week.

Oh gee, sign me up. Can I???!!! UGH.

I thought I was the only family that had this issue. My SIL likes to leave early to beat the traffic. ummm - clean up your crap - I don't want the food you purchased and did not use - and don't want to clean it up. I would also like to beat the traffic.
