I think if you collapsed the thread it would be:

- Local girl at Marshall gets into USC at 16;
- Oh really, isn't USC dangerous?
- Yes, no, maybe (depends on how high the gates are)
- Former McLean resident now in LA: LA is diverse and Fairfax County is white bread
- Current Fairfax County residents: we're pretty diverse now, too, just safer than South Central LA
- Oh really, where's the diversity? Certainly not in McLean.
- No, McLean's getting more diverse, too.
- Prove it.

Has the girl graduated from USC yet?

. . . you are mistaken if you believe McLean is "almost exclusively white." . . . some parts of McLean have up to a 40% minority population.

I was following a recent thread in the VA Public Schools forum schools that discussed diversity in FFC. If you are looking for a diverse community, McLean is a multi-ethnic and diverse city in Fairfax County according to the posters in that thread (quoted above).

I'm the Turkey Run (McLean) poster from earlier.

McLean is quite white. Not sure where they get 40% minority population. My DH is AA, and he always jokes that it's pretty much him, Colin Powell, and 1 of the Redskins. (oh, and our kids....)

There is a lot of diversity in terms of nationality, though.

White alone - 36,273 (75.4%)
Asian alone - 7,156 (14.9%)
Hispanic - 2,335 (4.9%)
Two or more races - 1,293 (2.7%)
Black alone - 851 (1.8%)
Other race alone - 145 (0.3%)
American Indian alone - 48 (0.10%)
Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander

Quote from today's Real Estate forum on a thread about Fairfax County.

I thought the title was trying to say "Life Isn't Over If You Are Not/DC Is Not Admitted to TJ"

I read the story and don't see what is misleading about the title of the thread.
My take-away for what it's worth is the mom and daughter wanted to stick it to TJ (who tipped the Post to the story?).

How is going to USC at 16 sticking it to TJ or grads who will go onto better schools?

Obviously they wanted the world to know that although TJ rejected her, it's their loss -- accepted at age 16 into a good University program (USC ranked 25 by U.S. News and World Report) and it's being paid for by a scholarship and grants. Still gotta wonder how the Post got wind of this in the first place. Also, when you say "better," if you live in L.A. there's no better alumni network.

I hear Gypsy Rose Lee had quite the stage mom, too.

As Andrianna's Mom, I am happy to discuss with any person on the ten pages of comments any questions they have so we can end speculation-- just send me an E-Mail at cayiotis@gwu.edu with your phone number and I'll call you. I must say I was fascinated by the various issues brought up and how many times people incorrectly surmised motivation or circumstance. I actually brought my child up to never speak about anyone who was not present to defend themself.
