As for USC, we joked it was a corporation that ran a very profitable football program with a university attached to it.
The UCLA students called USC the "University fo Spoiled Children."

I do think it has improved academically since then but would not send my kid there. I would be too nervous for his/her safety.

Californian here. All above is true. USC is a party school. And frighteningly expensive. I see no reason why this young woman should be skipping senior year (which in VA means could be taking Honors or AP Math, Science, English, Foreign languages, you get the point, for FREE. Once completed, she could have her chance at the Ivies. USC wouldn't be offering this program if it could get the type of student it wants through regular admissions, right? Why else would USC offer it? Same with Columbia. I don't know if the program still exists, but Columbia Law tried to snag me in college to start law school a year early. Why? Because Columbia Law needed to raise the caliber of student that was applying. I decided against it, finished fourth year of college and was accepted at Stanford, Michigan, Yale, and Harvard Law. Went to the latter. This program works only in USC's benefit.

Duh, higher education is a business.

They have been out 10 years or Moore and will drop, well, I went HYP or wherever. Hey, word of advice, stop resting on your laurels and produce for the company and maybe you'll finally get promoted.

Hey, guess what? No one gives a crap about the chain of command where you work.

Yup, could be an anomaly.

You know, I am quite surprised this post - which was meant to point out that Fairfax County schools offer options for all kinds of students to succeed (not just TJ) - produced the reaction that it did and erupted into a flame war. I guess this points to the highly negative atmosphere that anonymity encourages - after all why would you be nasty about a successul teenager you do not even know if you had to attach your name to your post?

As to those of you who were so negative and judgemental of the girl and her mother, I feel sorry for you and for your children. You have a twisted moral compass, if you have one at all, and your children will be nasty little wraithes produced in your image.

I read her two posts on here. Maybe TJ was looking for a smidgen of humility on the essays?

Meh. I'll still take TJ over GCM and U.Va over USC.

I'll take any of the service academies over U.Va. or any Ivy save Harvard.
