How can I stop getting tiny holes in my t-shirts near my belly button?

Anonymous
I have at least a dozen shirts with this same issue, holes by the belly button. All brands and I've ruled out seat belts since it will happen without ever having been in a car. The only time it doesn't happen is if I wear yoga pants so I'm convinced it has something to do with the zippers.

Just drove home from the cottage with a perfectly good t-shirt on and now it has the holes. Definitely not the first time for me. I think its the seatbelt rubbing on the zipper area of my jeans with the t-shirt in between!!

We've been getting holes for years. Very frustrating. In our home, we isolated the source to granite countertops, especially in front of the sink. When we wash dishes, we lean on the counter right at the level where the holes appear. A quick inspection of the granite edge revealed sharp sections and a rough edge. I've put a layer of thick clear packing tape along the edge and that has eliminated the problem.

Wow. I've been wondering about this for 20 yrs....literally! Glad to know it's not just me. Now that I think about it, it must have something to do with things rubbing against that point (i.e. edge of pants/snaps). Mystery solved.

I had this problem for a couple years before I realized it was my zipper. jeans from Costco were there worst. the zippers tab corners poke out and grab the fabric.
I now know to check zippers pull tab before I buy. Rounded ones are fine but some have square tabs and they are what ruins your clothes

I have them and the problem stopped when I realized it was the tab. Still have granite counters throughout my home but no holes in my shirt anymore.

My wife and several of her friends had the same issue everyone on the internet is talking about "Tiny holes in my shirts and tops", and it wasn't just caused by rubbing against a counter top or the edge of a desk. Yes, that does speed up the process, but the button tab and hardware on her jeans or pants were doing it with or without rubbing against the counter, desk or a seatbelt.

She tried wearing an apron when in the kitchen and that slowed it down but still didn't solve the problem. The front tuck method I heard talked about will solve the problem IF you're willing to wear your shirts that way. So after searching around for what seemed like forever, she finally found a website with an inexpensive solution...and this site explains everything in total detail and has a guarantee!

The product is called Lickety Klip and it's cheaper than any apron I've ever seen. So when you get tired of ruining your clothes or are sick of getting the "Tiny holes in my shirts and tops" syndrome, you can read all about it at http://licketyklip.com

I have the same thing happend to me, I thought it was the jeans, so I started to wear a belt, same thing, so now I were my belt to the side completely, I used it just a litle to the side and got holes there, so now my buckle is completely on my side, I will see if this works. Good luck and let me know if anything works for anyone that I could do deferent. Heidi

I have the same problem and after 2 years I found down that it's from my seatbelt in my car!!!! I know ridicules but true ha ha. I am driving Dodge Caravan by the way.. I am pretty sure that not all cars have the same seatbelts.....(I never had this problem before we moved to Canada ha ha). Try to use a towel on your belly under your seatbelt for a while and you will see.... Cheers!!!

I have a few theories on this.

1. Thin fabric costs less so the manufacturers make more money on tissue thin T-shirts
2. Thin fabric doesn't offer any insulation so you have to layer more, thus forcing you to buy more clothing
3. This fabric gets holes in it, thus forcing you to buy more clothing sooner. It's planned obsolescence.

Personally, I'm done with it. I've had to throw so many of my favorite graphic T-shirts out because of the holes, that I really don't have that much to wear anymore. And when I think of the money I spent on them, it makes me sicker. It's happened to me with shirts from Lucky, Sundance and J Crew, so I'm not talking cheap, low-priced shirts.

I'm going to refuse to go along with the clothing manufacturers on this. I'm not going to buy any more tissue weight T-shirts and I wish others would do the same. I figure that it's better to have fewer shirts that will last longer than these pieces of crap they're trying to foist upon us.

I realize that there are more important causes in the world, but this is something that affects me on a daily basis and the clothing manufacturers shouldn't be allowed to get away with it.

I almost cannot stop laughing because I have had this problem for the last few years and I thought I was the only one! I mentioned it to a friend and she told me about this stream of messages on the same damn holes! I thought I had a very fastidious moth for a while! THen I determined that it was not random enough to be a moth because the holes are always in the same damn place. It drives me nuts. BUT, I'm happy to know it's not just me. It seems to have coincided with my having kids, but now that I read, I think it's the crappy quality of shirts nowadays.
Thanks everyone for the camaraderie and smiles.

I have the same problem! I think it's my seat belt in my car!! I've been pulling out my shirt so its not tucked under the seat belt!

I've been driving for a while, and this problem has only happened for me within the last decade. So I'm thinking either the quality has gone down thanks to those tissue tshirts, or maybe it's the small Lycra/stretchy component a lot of clothes seem to have these days. For that to be true, there would have to be something about snagging Lycra.
