How does public assistance (welfare) work?

Your not gonna get out of paying your taxes by trying to change how this woman utilizes the benefits she receives from living in a civilized society that has programs (though grossly bureaucratic and inadequate ones) to care for and feed the underprivileged. Welfare and public assistance accounts for a very small fraction of federal spending..the Research and Military Industrial Complex accounts for the hugest percentage of spending and even more people object to warfare than to welfare. MOYB or help improve the system and when you do, start with the real problems in government spending. If you think you could help this woman by educating her and investing in her life(and maybe you could if she wants any help..) then maybe you could think of way's to help her start a business that wont instantly effect her assistance then go for it, otherwise your just going to wind up harassing or persecuting her family with your puritanical mindset (thankfully and sometimes sadly, we live in a society that supposedly we don't all have to share the same values and mindsets, maybe you'll keep this liberty in mind as you pass judgement.) possibly being detrimentally "helpful"..remember: "the road to hell is paved with good intentions".

Let's face it, a certain percentage of people are going to be useless. In ancient Rome, they figured out how to get in the bread and circuses racket, in the middle ages, they figured out how to join the religious-industrial complex, etc., etc. Fast-forward to today, they figure out how to scam welfare or exaggerate their circumstances.

Do we just let them starve or (possibly) breed discontent/violence (and then require even more expensive prisons)?

Or is it just easier to pay them a few grand a year to essentially make them go away and leave the productive parts of society alone, and try and do the best we can with their kids.

IMO, liberals have trouble admitting that some people are just fucking useless, and conservatives have trouble admitting it's easier for society to just pay them off to leave the rest of us alone.

It doesn't help matters when conservatives start sharing (often quite racist) stories about welfare queens that really don't exist.

We probably spend more on tracking welfare fraud than on tracking government contracting fraud. As a PP mentioned, drug testing welfare recipients is a money sink.

Worlds biggest welfare recipients are the Englands royal family.
I happen to know some people who have been welfare recipients, and no they did not exaggerate their circumstances or stay on welfare or scam the system

I agree with you on your major points, but you are actually wrong about England's royal family. I used to think the same thing, but please watch this video - I had no idea that this was the case, and it actually shows that the royals in England are giving a ton of money to the people and not the other way around.

Not sure where you get your facts, but entitlements will be the reason we default on debt.
