It doesn't matter. What matters is that the communities around the current site of Wootton HS bought their homes under the assumption their kids (or other people's kids who bought their home) could walk to school, and they feel entitled to have that continue to be the case in perpetuity, taxpayers be damned

Wonton families are taxpayers too.

And, they are giving your kids a brand new school because you say the current one is not safe. You had the option to wait your turn for repairs but choose not to want to wait so Crown is the best option. There aren't that many taxpayers in that school to justify the cost right now.

Wootton already waited its turn.
Crown can be a temporary holding school.

No, you didn’t. Go to crown since Wootton is unsafe.

Cool. Schools buses aren’t Uber

MCPS admin have unlimited hours a day to sit on this site and post stupid stuff and have posts deleted. The only way 12 min means anything is if you kid is the last one to get on the bus in the morning. Otherwise, the ride is at least an hour.

You would know since you post all day and night here and other places. In all that time you could drive your kids.

Why do the Parkways always fixate on this absurd argument? How many times do we need to explain that Gaithersburg annexed the land to MCPS in 2006! Do you really actually think that MCPS in 2006 when enrollment projections were showing a massive surge and it was going to receive 29 acres FOR FREE, that they should have said "nah, no thanks, we won't take this unique massive parcel of land for free to build a new high school because some day TWENTY YEARS from now enrollment will dip and we'll have a massive budget gap and we will need to relocate Wootton to Crown and the Parkway Princesses will throw a fit thinking we're "screwing them" by giving them a new school?! Touch grass.

So move students there who are geographically close not the ones who will need to spend 40 minutes on a bus each way. It’s nonsensical to move Cold Springs to Churchill and make Churchill at 112% capacity and move the rest of Wootton to Crown. Does not help with overcrowding at RM or Churchill, in fact it makes it worse. The purpose of the boundary study was to prioritize geography not make it worse .Why should I pay for their idiotic mistake and lack of foresight?

someone tell cold spring that since they asked for the move, politely, without yelling and embarrassing themselves to the whole county.

Taylor really has embarassed himself. It's time for another one of his clown videos.

The teachers overwhelming support the move. That says a lot.

Sign their petition: https://www.change.org/p/move-wootton-high-school

That's one teacher that started the petition.

Do you know how many teachers in the school actually signed the petition?

And the number of teachers will never outnumber the community. But that petition has been up for a couple of weeks now but does not have the same number of petition signers for the Anti H petition:
https://www.change.org/p/save-wootton-and-crown-high-school-say-no-to-option-h

The people that signed the petition for moving Wootton high school includes people from the Dufief, Stone Mill and Washingtonian Woods communities. And looks like it includes someone from Damascus too. But they're still outnumbered by the Anti H petition signers.

Property owners that want taxpayers to prop up their property values don't get to make this decision unilaterally. It isn't a vote, this isn't direct democracy.

This petition means nothing except if you can show the parents and teachers vs. community.

You are saying the school is unsafe. When MCPS agreed, you now move the goal post to complain about other things and reasons why you cannot be move to Crown. So, which is it?

Ridiculous. You can be damn certain that if there was a vote of every resident who currently is zoned for Wootton to raise taxes for say $10k per home per year for ten years or however much would be needed to cover $400M with interest I am certain that would fail. Unfortunately we are a county based school system but they seem to think it’s ok to make the rest of the taxpayers pay for a renovation that’s not needed at this time.

I get it, I’d want to avoid change but compounding one bad decision with another does not make sense.

I hope the county prospers and we need both schools in 10 years but honestly the way the state and county are going on taxes and economic measures I’m not optimistic about that.

And I’m a center left voter who hates MAGA.

The Wootton people who can walk to the building, who value the ability to walk to school above all else. Including their children’s health.

They are the members of the wootton community who are adamantly against the superintendents recommendation. Many others in the community are for the move to crown.

Maybe we don’t want our children to spend 40 minutes each way on the bus daily because it will negatively impact their health. We are going to be the farthest community from Crown. Our kids will be getting on those buses before 7 am. We bought our tiny townhouse to be able to walk to all 3 schools.

Then, drive them. Most of our kids spend 30-40 minutes or longer on the bus to their local high school. My kids have a 15 minute ride to school and a 35 minute ride home on the bus for a 10 minute or less drive for me.

Why do I need to drive them when I have a school I can see from my house? I need to do that because MCPS decided to build a school that’s apparently not needed and now they want to screw me?

It's definitely personal. You're right.

It surely feels that way when the only school they are doing this to is a majority Asian school.

They did this to Boyd’s/Clarksburg too. You are not the only community to “lose” access to a community school.

They did it too Horizon Hill, too - from walkers to Wootton to bus ride to RM. Somehow, those kids survived.

Here's a post from Rockville Council Member Adam Van Grack and it captures a video snippet of Taylor answering questions:

The audience was pretty hostile and aggressive, and booed and talked over him a few times. Taylor looked like he crapped himself toward the end of the clip.

What a night!

I think it's funny (sad) that every single superintendent has been labeled a "clown" by someone on DCUM. We are never going to get a superintendent that everyone agrees with.

No, I'm not Taylor nor work for MCPs. I'm a parent who moved here about 10 years ago, and chuckle at these comments.

+1

Much less to do then with aging in place and lack of affordability discouraging families from moving to MoCo when NoVA is way cheaper in tax costs. But the bigger thing is aging in place

kudos to him for staying calm. I would've yelled back at the parents, "Shut up and let me talk".

Enrollment is projected to go down pretty much everywhere though.
