Imagine being those parents, leaving last winter, knowing their absence would allow another family to take their spot in upcoming admissions, watching admissions cycle come and go with no notification to the community. That might have motivated timing of their email. I am mixed about email going to high schoolers if it did. I do not think it was sent to middle schoolers! No one has said that. |
| It absolutely went to high schoolers as well as alumni |
False - It's clear from the family's letter that they have tried for many months to engage w/ the HOS and the board and have waited patiently for the school to send a letter to all parents telling. them that an incident occured. The letter says the board refused or refused to even meet with them. So they probably reached their limit and send the email. The school's response seemed canned and ready so I'm guessing they knew that the parents were upset and were going to go public. I'm sure the press (not just the Augur Bit) will be all over this son - well if we had a local paper that covered our region. I worry that the MAGA media will pick this up - "Antiracist Baby Ketanji school fails victim" - and frankly that might be deserved here |

What is the evidence burden here for MPD?
Is it: physical evidence - well the victim reported this 6 weeks after the fact to his parents so a rape kit would not work Is it: camera evidence - my guess is GDS does not have cameras in or near bathrooms so that will not be it If the victim knows who one or both perps are or has a reasonable guess, i assume that is not evidence - I sense we are stuck here between "credible" and what the MPD needs. GDS is of course hiding behind their lawyers. Fact that they did not send the school a notification in 2025 that an incident had occured at school against a child that they were investigating tells me that they DO NOT believe the victim. Shame on this board and russell. |

There is an important difference between believing the victim and the actions to follow. I believe that the victim was traumatized, but I also believe that there is not sufficient evidence for the school to take action beyond offering counseling and care to the victim and his family. This is a super serious allegation and without compelling evidence beyond testimony that cannot be corroborated (as far as we know at this point), GDS is limited in what it can do. EXACTLY. From my point of view, there is nothing more the school could do. Send a letter saying something could have happened MONTHS after it occurred? What would that accomplish. There was clearly nothing to be done. |
| Do schools really not have hallway cameras? Obviously not in the bathroom, but a camera outside of the bathroom would put an end to the speculation. I know many schools that have this and I can’t come up with a good reason not to have them. |

I love GDS and am a fan of Russell Shaw; that said, i am awaiting to see what actions the school takes on security protocols, transpatency on security incidences/complaints, and also protocol on accusations of sexual violence in the future.

I think GDS could believe the victim AND also not send out a notification if there is not sufficient evidence to support the child's testimony. With a crime this serious, GDS would be irresponsible if they sent out a notification without proof of allegations against students. |
Yes 100000000% agree |
The kids could intentionally speak in a higher or lower voice or something stupid like that. We don't know. Just like, as someone has pointed out, we don't know they wore masks. just that they hid their face somehow. |
This is a new building that was designed with safety features--I assume--for possible school shootings. There probably are cameras. |
If I truly believe my 11 year old had been raped in a school bathroom I would not wait a whole year for the school to do something. |
| Can someone at GDS share whether or not there are cameras? |

Doesn't the school know where everyone is through out the day? Which kids were late returning to class? Which kids asked for a hall pass? Our school's on line 'grade book' lets me know if my kid was late for class any period of the day. unfortunately no. There aren't hall passes and i don't know that kids even have to ask if they want to leave the classroom to go to the bathroom. if everything was disclosed earlier the teachers might have been able to remember if a student/potential perpetrator had been late to a class or left class for a while, but months after they wouldnt remember. Also for the people saying they doubt the victim would have just gone back to class--who says they did? they could have crawled into a corner till it was time to go home. One of the most concerning things about all of this is that GDS has not said that after the reported incident it took any preventative measures, like cameras outside the bathroom, starting a hall pass system etc. It seems that even if they don't think something happened, measures to make sure that it couldnt happen might make sense. |
The question isn’t just whether they have cameras, but whether those cameras keep data for months. |
