| If Wootton at Crown is the final decision I hope they do something about the regional magnets too - move Magruder to Region 4, Wootton at Crown still stays with Region 5 and becomes the STEM magnet and Gaithersburg houses the Humanities Magnet. |
When? For which schools? |
What was the secondary recommendation? |
There's not a lot of detail, but see pages. 42-44: https://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/files/DQZPAX63BCF7/$file/Rec%20Secondary%20Prog%20Analysis%20Boundary%20Studies%20260205%20PPT.pdf |
That’s just too greedy. Wootton cannot lose on every single aspect. That’s too unfair |
MCPS has been after Wootton for a long time - and targeting Wootton is the easiest way to disperse this cluster of Asians. |
This is good for Region 5, but bad for Wootton itself and region 4. If this happens, region 4 will only have 3 HSs, and Wootton loses strong stem candidates from Churchill and RM. Wootton has been sacrificed too much. |
wait, now we have someone saying that there are strong STEM students at RM to compete with kids from Wootton (which sends the most students to Blair STEM)? Go figure. |
MCPS has avoided any renovation of Wootton for a long time. This lends credence to the belief that this closure was planned a long time ago. There have been MCPS efforts to redistribute achievement for years. Those were primarily through COE, GT, IB and Magnet programs, but those too became a “haves and have nots”, so MCPS is taking things a step further now. |
| It would be an insanely irresponsible financial decision to open a 27th high school with declining enrollment. Wootton families have been complaining about the state of their building for years. They now get a brand new building and are complaining? Maybe it's not about the building after all.... |
| I think this whole thread is AI. Just keeps repeating. Including me? Maybe... |
Sadly it isn’t. Neither side can see the other’s viewpoint. That said, I think even the most hardcore pro-H person would agree that the recommendation process was rushed at the end. From watching the BOE’s faces during community testimonies, it was pretty clear they weren’t listening in good faith. It’s likely Option H was proposed by Dr. Taylor only after the BOE votes were in hand, and before any community input on it was sought. It’s now up to the County Council to decide whether Option H is truly in the best interest of MoCo (and their own, of course). |
If Taylor was dispersing Asians, he would have moved the new Wootton into region 5. Instead, Wootton will be with Churchill in region 4. |
He may be only doing this to reduce pushback at first. One step at a time. Who knows what’s coming next |
How so? He proposed a modified H, but what else can he do short of keeping Wootton open? |
