For those who boycott Amazon, Walmart and Target, where do you buy your health/beauty items? I buy other items such as paper products and toothpaste at my local owned grocery store but certain items I can’t find there.

What’s wrong with Hobby Lobby? I’ve never been to one.

About 10 or 15 years ago, health insurance companies were mandated to cover birth control. Hobby Lobby has religious owners and didn't want to offer BC to their female employees and took it to the Supreme Court. They won the right to exclude BC (some, all - not sure). I realize people can decide for themselves whether to work there or not, but I didn't like the precedent that was set.

Also for religious reasons, HL is closed on Sundays. I purposely threw my business to Michael's and JoAnn's over the years, because I didn't want to help keep a company in business that wasn't open all weekend, which is when I usually had time to shop.

I don't do a lot of crafting now, and my house is decorated, but when I need material or to have something framed, I try Michael's or a local shop first. HL does have good selection. Holiday paper plates in 20 designs. Dozens of "themed" aisles for home decor - beach, rustic, country, pink ballet, sports, and on and on with SO many items to choose from such as framed pictures, lamps, book shelves, decor items. HL has a large fabric selection, party theme items and every craft supply you could need. Want to decorate your front porch for a holiday? HL will have 50 or more things to choose from, whether Spring, RW&B, Fall, Christmas, etc. It's a clean store and their prices are affordable.

But I hate religion having influence on public policy and I like the convenience of being able to shop on Sunday. I don't hard boycott HL, but I throw 80% of my business in this area to their competitors.
You don't care that the employees of other stores you frequent have to work Sundays to accommodate your shopping habits? You boycott a store for "religious reasons" because they honor giving their employees Sunday off? You know, there was a time when the majority of retail stores were not open on Sundays.

I think many of those employees would love to work Sundays so they could get a full 40 hour work week and be eligible for benefits and get a full time salary by working at one job. I have several moms in my family who stay home during the week and want to work weekends when their husbands can watch the kids. They sacrifice family time at home on Saturday or Sunday in order to be home during the weekdays and avoid paying babysitters. If I'm in the market for craft items, and I need to shop on Saturday and Sunday, why would I give my money to a store who is closed half the weekend? And yes, I prefer to support stores who "accommodate my shopping habits" of needing to shop on Saturday AND Sunday because I am busy during the week.

And, for political and feminism reasons, I prefer to support businesses who allow their health insurance to provide birth control options for female employees.

Ooh, never buy beauty products on Amazon because there are so many fakes and open packages. Also they ship crushable tubes/bottles in envelopes all the time.

Depending on what it is I buy from Sephora, Costco, or directly from the product manufacturer.

I have significantly reduced buying everything except food. We have so much stuff and it feels lights physically and mentally when I take my junk to charity store and put them on Freecycle.

Well I shop from the product’s own store on Amazon, not a random seller. I don’t use Sephora products and I just checked and the manufacturer of my hand lotion doesn’t sell directly. I already see a dermatologist for skin issues so I’m not willing to change products but I am willing to change where I shop if it doesn’t drastically alter my budget as I’m a teacher and don’t earn a ton.

To all the naysayers and haters - boycotts ended apartheid in South Africa. Your power and your ability to make the world a better place is with your dollars. Whether you like it or not.

MAGA FRIENDLY RESTAURANTS IN DC I will not go to ever.

Menomale Pizza | 2711 12th St, Northeast (they recently took a lot of BS for congratulating President Trump)

The Big Board | 421 H St, Northeast

RPM Italian | 650 K St, Northwest

Shelly’s Back Room | 1331 F St, Northwest

New Heights | 2317 Calvert St, Northwest

Hobby Lobby paid a living wage and provided wonderful health benefits to even part time workers, long before the living wage movement and obamacare were a thing, FYI

Same.

I'll boycott someplace that has wronged me, but boycott Target because you don't like their politics? Yall are the most narrow minded people on the face of the earth. I can see boycotting Amazon because I don't want to throw my money at a monster corporation that has pushed out of business multiple other companies and privately owned businesses. But Target? They have fair prices, a nice selection of decent quality products, they pay their employees well and treat them well. When you go after Target you are harming all their employees, not just the corporation. I guess that's okay with you folks, just so long as you get to make your point.

Hobby Lobby is conservative Christian right, and opposed to birth control. Nope.

Wonderful health benefits that don't include access to birth control for women
