I'm asking this with 100% sincerity and genuine curiosity:

Why do you care enough to spend so much energy on this board? What motivates you to do that? I'm genuinely fascinated.

I suspect it has something to do with the obnoxious way people’s little fantasies and belief in sky fairies affects policy and every day life.

+2. I wish they could keep their religion out of public policy, where it has no place.

Now in Texas, they are praying for the dead. Fat lot of good prayer has done. Guess it was God's will that all those rich girls died at camp.

And it was a Christian camp!

You are free to vote for those who share the same beliefs as you do.

+1.

Of course they don’t realize that their right to choose their religion (or lack thereof) is founded in Christian tradition.

Could you please cite exactly where the right to choose one's religion (or lack thereof) is set forth in the Christian tradition?

Revelation 3:20, among others.

I love this forum for how it shows that atheists and Christians are more alike than different -- most of them are stupid and ignorant.

Some do believe that it was God's will.

Yes but fortunately we also have towering intellects like you who edify us all with insightful posts like the above.

I also hate confounding run of the mill people who believe in Jesus aka nominal Christians with born again Christians, evangelicals, Biblical inerrancy people, and RWNJ politicians.

What is the atheist equivalent of "sky fairies"?

There is no confounding. Whatever level of belief you have, it is all still silly regardless of what you call it - Vishnu, Osiris, Zeus, Jesus, or the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Here in the US, I think the majority of people who still believe in God just haven't thought about it much. IF they did, a lot of them probably wouldn't believe any more..

There isn't one.

From what I've witnessed on this board they're generally an angry miserable bunch. I think while they don't know it or even realize it they might be driven by the devil to pull people away from God. They might be being used.

Think about this: when on these boards have you seen believers trying to covert atheists into believing in God? When have you seen them pushed, shamed and antagonized for not believing in God? Never. Why is that? Does that seem strange to you? It's one way. Ask yourself why is it one way? Food for thought.

I live a fairly good life as I know that every moment I have to live is precious.

The anger and misery come from the mythology believers trying to impose their fictions on my life.

"impose their fictions on my life."

EXCEPT no one is doing that to you at all. Its totally all in your head.

They believe in the Evolution Fairy: it waves its wand and Poof! water-breathing creatures breathe air. Poof! wingless creatures sprout feathers and after flapping for millions of years, learn to fly into the air. Poof! veins magically appear with blood and Poof! a heart appears and pumps the blood and Poof! kidneys appear and filter the blood and Poof! Poof! Poof! trillions of dependent structures and designed-appearing mechanism pop into existence over -insert-millions-of-years.

It “Just so” happened because some people who claim God does not exist said so!

Of course, they won’t word it so bluntly but will use scientific jargon to give their fairy a mantle of believability and authority.

Poof!

+10000 well said! No one throws their religion onto these atheists or makes them feel small or terrible for not believing in God. It is truly one way.

PP is wrong about the "poof" part. Evolution is a very, very slow process. Religion has a lot of poof in it.

Yes, they are different, but they have at least one thing in common: They believe in the supernatural. A lot of people who are now atheists once believed in the supernatural too. That's how they know how silly it is.
