None of which demonstrates PP’s claim that it’s “an utterly dumb” financial decision to send a kid to a red state bc “jobs will not be there.” That’s just silly. |
Alabama gives merit that some of us can't turn down. Is that so hard to understand? |
Beat it, Dobbs dork. |
| There are thousands of girls at college. No they aren’t all like these stereotypes. The majority of it is limited to sororities at southern colleges. But that is a small percentage of the total girls on campus. Sure, there is less of this culture in sororities (and overall) at say, University of Chicago. But pretty much any college is going to have a variety of different types of people and your daughter will find her people wherever she ends up. |
I went to Rice for a grad school a long time ago after getting my undergrad at the top LAC and the undergrads I met at Rice were on average just much smarter. Difference was quite noticeable. Their college system was nice too. Met my spouse there as well but we moved back to the coast because of TX. I would send my daughters there if they got in and it was not TX, not going to do that now that TX has become even less progressive. |
Alabama also has some great space and tech jobs. |
Is it posdible your daughter is just repeating stereotypes that don't hold water? "All" and "only" quantifiers are a very middle school way to process things. |
Appearance focused is fairly standard (for just about everyone). Cutting people by hair color is not. |
All of these posters here who only focus on the looks of southern college students, deriding their intelligence and morals because they are pretty and happy, are the worst elements of the "lookism" culture. They cannot see beyond appearances, and are willing to deride enormous swaths of young women simply for being pretty. It is a very ugly narrow mindedness. |
No it is not. If what you are saying is true, then nyc colleges would be packed with kids from Florida and Alabama. |
Your daughter is probably not being accurate, and repeating rumors with no basis in facts. |
I am actually stating the results from a survey done by a company that focuses on college grads. NYC was the #1 destination for college graduates in the Southeast by a large margin (I think Atlanta was #2, DC was #3, Chicago was #4). Could be that kids attending college in the Southeast are from other places, like the Northeast, and don't stay in the Southeast. Where you work a job is different than where you attend college. |
No, literally she was told by one of the members that she was "lucky" that she got in because they like to have blonde girls be the majority of their house. However, since she has a pretty face and a good number of Instagram followers, she made the cut. She didn't last long there. That's how shallow some of these girls are. My other daughter is in another sorority (Midwest) and it's not like that. |

If you want to live in a world where looks don't matter, you're going to need to find a different species to belong to. Greek system or no Greek system.
Humans have always, and will always, care a great deal about physical appearance. PS. anyone can be blond if they know a good colorist. |
