I got the same stock response from the school board. My question is whether there is another "calendar policy" that the calendar should not change after being set.

If you are curious about why Eid al-Adha's date changed and the customs regarding when they start the celebrations, asking a diverse friend who has been celebrating these holidays all their life is a good place to start. I hope you consider them friend-worthy outside of advocating for eliminating their holidays from their kid's school calendar, otherwise it sure would be awkward.

appropriate backup plans is laughable. Not all parents can reschedule their volunteering. The equipment rentals can’t necessarily be transferred to whatever day APS decides.

DP. I think most people are fine with having days off for various holidays, but a holiday that can't be marked on the calendar and that can change 3 weeks out poses a hardship for the majority of the school district. Maybe an excused absence is more appropriate for holidays that can't be planned in advance.
