The Parents square digest goes out around 6 o’clock, so I think a lot of parents will be finding out about it right around now |
I hate this. I hate how we still get out the third week of June yet are still starting before Labor Day. I’m fine starting the year then, but it has to correspond to getting out earlier. All the bullshit they spewed about extra instructional days before AP exams. What a joke. Still the same just less summer. And for those with younger kids, my high schooler has not been able to do a number of summer programs that she’d have loved to apply to because they start the third week of June. |
+1 HS kids are having to double duty regular classes/exams and the start of Virtual Virginia Session 1. |
We need to revise the PIP that controls calendar creation to only allow for holidays where the date is known for certain at least a year in advance. |
No, take the holidays out like FCCPS. This last minute switcheroo might be enough to get families behind it. |
What is this all about? I thought he was coming back to WL. |
Where did this come from? I don’t see this in the superintendent’s message. |
APS isn’t serious about education. |
Sadly this is true. The current administration is only worried about trying to bring the lowest performing students up to the bare minimum. Everyone else is ignored. |
Wow, I had no idea a public school could cancel field trips and other events so they can add a religious holiday to the calendar during the school year. Isn't that kind of unconstitutional? |
Message was sent to WL families, from Mr Hall

The schedule for the moon is based upon orbital propagation and as well known ahead of time. There is no surprise here. |
Sorry but you’re incorrect. While it is true that there is a published calendar of moon cycles, for these specific Islamic holidays, It requires verification by human eyesight at the beginning of the new moon cycle. If that is not seen until a day later than published originally, it would push Eid a day later. |
I’m sure the kids with cancelled field trips and school dances will understand. |
