The use of "sounds like" is not a lie, it's an opinion. That opinion is based on this quoted section of the article, which gives the impression that the child and mother were taken out of the US before the judge had the opportunity to talk to the mother directly about whether she really wanted to take the child to Honduras with her. But apparently you know more than the judge--based on your years of experience as a judge.

Play this out. Imagine if ICE had kept the child with the unrelated guardian after the dad failed to appeared as requested. Can you imagine the headlines? “Trump rips toddler from mother! The monster!” The judge didn’t need to question this woman. She knew she was illegal and subject to deportation. Her child being American doesn’t make her a citizen. She is an adult and made her choice to keep the child with her - I would have done the same. |
Well I think you should write to the judge right away and share your opinions. Perhaps you will sway him and he will cancel the hearing he has scheduled for May. |
There is no such thing as a removal of a US citizen. She got a free flight to Honduras with her mother, who is her guardian. |
Why couldn't the judge understand that?! |
Your appeal to authority has been noted. In this country we get to have opinions. And yes, it’s ok if those opinions differ from that of a single judge. |
Amen to still having 1st amendment rights. That's something we can all agree on. |
No one is denying your right to be wrong. |
The only conclusion here is that either the child stays with her mother in Honduras or is flown back to the US.
And they likely will still deport the father. So in this case the family is fighting for family separation. |
He should cancel the hearing. Contrary to news reports, it appears the father is not married to the mother. Court documents just say 'father'. Under Louisiana law, this gives sole custody to the mother. There is no guardian who can sue for custody, and the father cannot either. |
I get it, you wanted the US to snatch a toddler out of her mother’s arms. |
What is the best interest of the child? Raised by a foster family in the US or by her mother in Honduras? This is a determination for her mother to make. |
Sure, those who illegally crossed the border detected or undetected without presenting themselves at a port of entry requesting asylum should be deported immediately. There are many more here who followed our asylum protocols and are waiting for their cases to be heard. They should not be subject to deportation until their asylum case is heard. Hopefully you understand the difference between someone who illegally crossed the border and those who requested asylum at a port of entry. Demand reform of our immigration amd asylum protocols. Leave people who are caught up in the mess of our broken asylum process, dysfunctional Congress and awful presidents alone. |
People who follow asylum protocols and are waiting on cases to be heard aren’t considered illegal immigrants. Don’t conflate the two. |
Who actually has custody of this child, and are any of them US citizens? |
