QuestBridge kids taking half the spots at top schools, and it’s unfair

*and also give away your assets, as necessary for CSS.

Of course you won't, because being poor is still worse than being rich, even with the admiss boost.

What Questbridge schools have even released decisions where one would be getting rejected after rejection?

Only ED has been released for the top schools. Some publics have released EA, but very few.

Troll post and DCUM takes the bait.

QB is profoundly unfair when it means they get slots in place of better qualified kids. That's a fact at my high school. Why should they get T20 slots? They can get a GREAT education at a top public right? Don't people post that here all the time. Top academic performers that are QB. Okay, perfectly fine. 1300 SATs, less than 4.0 GPA. Still strong but T20 strong?

A full ride when you’re poor can change your academic performance and life. Most top publics do not offer this level of safety net for students to truly thrive. It’s about evening the playing field when many students on campus don’t need to work at all to be there.

Oh, and we're not rich. We saved and scrimped but make too much to be QB not nearly enough to pay full cost but close enough. They'll milk us for all we're worth. We're the ones in the middle getting squeezed from all sides

Why are you not this ruffled about athletic admissions? Does a “president’s list” of preferred admissions candidates bother you, too?

NP. I am bothered by QB, I am bothered by "dean's list", I am bothered by athletic recruits, i am bothered by full pay bias, I am bothered by the cloak of holistic admissions.

The whole fu&$@ing process is stupid, unfair, and ridiculously cockamamie.

It's the clearance rack at tj maxx masquerading as a meritocracy.

Okay, are you only bothered by athletic recruits? What about math nerds or violin prodigies or science geeks or theater kids or journalists or all the other interests that kids pursue in high school? Which ones are of value and why? And which ones are not of value and why?

What you don't understand is there are no "better qualified kids".

OP says their kids is a minority, yet upper class. They aren’t white privileged. Which that too has to stop already. The argument is so toxic and old. Everybody deserves a chance if they work hard.

Nobody’s forcing you to pretend it’s a meritocracy.

If it clearly isn’t, stop playing the game. Do your own research on which schools match your values and have the qualities you are seeking at a price point you like.

OP's child is going to get a chance. It may not be a chance to get an undergraduate degree from HYPS but that's not the same as not getting a chance.

Everyone except athletic recruits is annoyed by athletic recruiting.

Life’s unfair. Your kid will be fine.
