Can someone explain why a second high school is racist?

Given how race and poverty are spread throughout Alexandria, it's doubtful anyone can explain

There was a fear that you would have one high school full of UMC+ kids and one of poor kids.

Just because you and others find all the loop holes to make sure your kid is okay in this environment doesn't make it right. But glad your kid got into UVA PP. All is well then.

What you are describing is life. It isn't unique to ACHS.

It’s not unique but this is not typical either.

It’s absurd to me that the school is struggling like this in an otherwise nice and expensive suburb. We are sending our child to private school but wish public was a better option , and may consider moving to Fairfax county for our child’s high school years

yeah, because this doesn't happen at WEPO, West Springfield, Lake Braddock, South Lakes...

I have taught at one of those for over 5 years, and only once has there been student on staff violence, and it was a cat B student with severe emotional disturbance issues. I can only think of one physical fight either. The level of violence described in the incident is terrifying to me as a staff member.

Don’t forget one student stabbing another to death a couple of years ago. I used to live very close to where that happened and I find the whole thing very disturbing.

That didn't happen at a school. It happened in a shopping center parking lot.

Keep reaching!

School was closed for 2 weeks because it was gang related. And those gangs departed the school to then fight and kill someone. Do you really think it was not school-related? In the videos one assailant is wearing a Canada Goose jacket. These are organized criminal elements. And because we are obsessed with progressive bona fides we act like social workers will make this all better. Alexandrians get what we vote for - and alas here we are.

"In the videos one assailant is wearing a Canada Goose jacket." what does that mean?

Those jackets cost about 2K each.

So if these kids did not buy those jackets and the parents didn't either don't the parents wonder where they got the jackets from?!

But there is a “root cause” to them being criminal thieves. (Eye roll). But this City is full of self-flagellating people who believe this.

Because in Alabama 40 years ago (maybe Tuscaloosa?) there was one integrated high school and then they split it and one became the nice (white-majority) high school and the other became the “bad” school. And this example meant that it would 100% happen in Alexandria, too, of course.

I wish I was kidding but this used to be in the FAQs on the ACPS website.

I guess but what you have now is one building with kids who are more focused on academics, for the most part. STEM is disproportionately (though not all) UMC white kids. Health Sciences definitely has a mix of income levels and races, but it's an application program, so it's kids who want to be at school.

White supremacists really did ruin everything.

I guess you don't know how city of Alexandria judges work...they literally let guy out after an assault and rape he immediately went and killed her.

Other parents have stated unequivocally on here that the school would win less athletic state championships if it was split into smaller schools. And that’s why the options for multiple schools were blocked.

If I were a parent in Alexandria, I would demand that the police come in and keep order so my kid could safely go to school. This is insane.

The female sro was knocked out cold and lay on the ground while other students just snapped as many pictures as they can discusting. And the City of Alexandria is such a sad train wreck that I'm tired of watching. They do nothing to fix their issues and in fact cause most of their issues lets not forget they pulled $800k back and defended school sros a few years ago. Smh. Justin wilson is a nightmare for this city.

My BIL teaches at a school in a disadvantaged area in another city, and they do have issues like this regularly, though not as extreme as the stabbing incident in the parking lot - but tons of fights, disrespect to teachers, etc.

Wakefield is down the street and has a fraction of the issues of ACHS

I don’t think it has the same student population, if that’s what you are implying. Why do you think they only have a fraction of the problems?
