Alexandria HS on Lockdown- Massive Gang Brawl

Anonymous
Statement from the Alexandria Police Department: https://www.alexandriava.gov/news-apd/2024-12-19/statement-regarding-student-altercations-at-alexandria-city-high-school

At approximately noon, on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, two Alexandria Police Department School Resource Officers on the campus of Alexandria City High School, responded to reports of multiple physical altercations occurring in school hallways and the cafeteria. As a result, two students were criminally charged with assault and battery. APD is aware of one injured student who left with their parents to receive treatment at a clinic. Investigators are continuing to verify the validity of a media report of a student being stabbed, nothing at this point in the investigation substantiates that claim.

Separately, an adult woman who is seen in a video circulating on social media lying on the ground reported falling and remained on the floor conscious. She refused medical attention on the scene and declined to file a police report. There were no injured parties transported for medical attention.

As part of the APD patrol plan, there is a police presence in and around perimeter neighborhoods of ACHS and within retail spaces to deter and prevent further altercations.

Will the city ever correct its errors and allow a second HS?

You think a second high school will stop this?! How and why? You need to get rid of the gangs!

A second high school would negate the need for a 13 minute transition period from class to class where they get into fights and don't respect authority.

I’m sorry, but how is the second high school going to help that the kids don’t respect authority? I thought much of this violence is gang related? It sounds like the police is needed. Are the gang members US citizens?

2 students only? That alone cannot be right. And why did the women not file charges, she was knocked unconscious?

Other parents have stated unequivocally on here that the school would win less athletic state championships if it was split into smaller schools. And that’s why the options for multiple schools were blocked.

lying troll.

Simply go through the multiple comments in threads on the topic of ACHS over the past couple years. There are comments on how keeping one school would lead to more state championship teams / stronger sports in general. It was one of a number of stated reasons in favor of the one high school solution.

My child attended Wakefield a few miles away with a similar demographic and less than half the number of students as ALexandria HS.

They did have a lock down a couple years ago, and the. they had some ODs in the bathroom but no gangs fights that result in death or closed down the school.

It's the only public HS in the city, duh.

I'm aware. That's why a much higher percentage of people than would be typical in surrounding communities move at some point or send their kids to private school.

The ones who stay twist themselves into pretzels explaining it though. It's pretty fascinating.

I know a family who sends their kid there. They have a beach house too. Why not just pay for private. Priorities.

The private options aren’t great either. The DC privates are a tough commute and SSSAS has its own issues.

SSSAS has a massive drug problem. Massive.

What? My kids go there and this is news to me.

+2. Two kids at sssas and no idea what the poster is talking about. Sounds like a bitter poster

No. This wasn’t part of the discussion at the time the decision was made not to have a second high school.

Parents from the West End did speak up and said they wanted a high school in the West End. But the rich white liberals drowned them out because they believed they were being benevolent and letting kids in poverty be with rich kids who had good grades would “uplift” them to do better and this would lead to breaking the cycle of poverty. And of course there was the discussion that a West End high school would be a failing school and that wasn’t fair. Of course no one stopped to consider that calling it a failing school based solely on the demographic of the students wasn’t exactly very progressive.

Just because you and others find all the loop holes to make sure your kid is okay in this environment doesn't make it right. But glad your kid got into UVA PP. All is well then.

What you are describing is life. It isn't unique to ACHS.

It’s not unique but this is not typical either.

It’s absurd to me that the school is struggling like this in an otherwise nice and expensive suburb. We are sending our child to private school but wish public was a better option , and may consider moving to Fairfax county for our child’s high school years

yeah, because this doesn't happen at WEPO, West Springfield, Lake Braddock, South Lakes...

I have taught at one of those for over 5 years, and only once has there been student on staff violence, and it was a cat B student with severe emotional disturbance issues. I can only think of one physical fight either. The level of violence described in the incident is terrifying to me as a staff member.

Don’t forget one student stabbing another to death a couple of years ago. I used to live very close to where that happened and I find the whole thing very disturbing.

That didn't happen at a school. It happened in a shopping center parking lot.

Keep reaching!

School was closed for 2 weeks because it was gang related. And those gangs departed the school to then fight and kill someone. Do you really think it was not school-related? In the videos one assailant is wearing a Canada Goose jacket. These are organized criminal elements. And because we are obsessed with progressive bona fides we act like social workers will make this all better. Alexandrians get what we vote for - and alas here we are.

"In the videos one assailant is wearing a Canada Goose jacket." what does that mean?

Those jackets cost about 2K each.

So if these kids did not buy those jackets and the parents didn't either don't the parents wonder where they got the jackets from?!

maybe they bought with their guaranteed income feee money

Anonymous wrote:Can someone explain why a second high school is racist?

Because in Alabama 40 years ago (maybe Tuscaloosa?) there was one integrated high school and then they split it and one became the nice (white-majority) high school and the other became the “bad” school. And this example meant that it would 100% happen in Alexandria, too, of course.

I wish I was kidding but this used to be in the FAQs on the ACPS website.

White supremacists really did ruin everything.

Except, in this case, black-on-black violence. That is still thriving. Why is that?

Wakefield is down the street and has a fraction of the issues of ACHS

I don’t think it has the same student population, if that’s what you are implying. Why do you think they only have a fraction of the problems?

More functional school system

2020 & 2022 state volleyball champions. Most of those ladies lived within 1/2 square mile of each other, so a 2nd school would not have mattered. And if you don’t think volleyball is worthy go check out the general sports discussion thread.

Demographics are almost perfectly aligned outside of Black/African American but the size disparity is huge

ACHS
Enrollment (2023-2024)
4,563 students

American Indian or Alaska Native: <1%
Asian: 5.4%
Black or African American: 24.8%
Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander: <1%
White: 24.6%
Hispanic: 42.1%
Multi-racial: 2.8%

Wakefield
Enrollment 2360
Native/Pacific .3
Asian 6.5%
Black 18.7%
White 24.5
Hispanic 45.2%
Multiracial 4.8

No high school should be 4500 kids.
