Lots of parts of it are not nice and expensive. So many kids in the high school are on free and reduced lunch that everyone just gets it.

The city is nice, but city council bends over backwards on progressive missions recruit people who can't afford to live here. Increased development without proper resource allocation like building new school. Subsidied everything, affordable housing. Why? Even the programs to educate students from these socioeconomic backgrounds cost more money and tank the schools ratings. What does a tax paying homeowners get out of this arrangement? Umm canceled school. Wake up everyone. Tell elected officials we are paying attention and want a change.

You forgot the free busses and free guaranteed income program.

The city is insane. I've watched it go downhill for the last few decades. To answer your question though they get a ton of federal grants $$$$ for making the need here. So they create a problem to get more money for the problem they created.

The kids all know which gangs were involved. Many came to watch because they knew about it beforehand.

Wake up people.

The gangs city council says doesn't exist here in the city of alexandria? Those gangs?

Don't leave out the time the city attorney signed off on a pilot project to provide business loans to small businesses. But only ones owned by blacks. The only backed down when they got sued.

The a$$hat should be disbarred

Or when the city finally got the covid vaccine and where only offering to people of color first since they are more "disadvantaged" then everyone else had to wait for it.

LOL. Black Moms on the FB pages are crying discrimination. Because the assailants were black.

Priceless. They are the real victims.

What you are describing is life. It isn't unique to ACHS.

It’s not unique but this is not typical either.

It’s absurd to me that the school is struggling like this in an otherwise nice and expensive suburb. We are sending our child to private school but wish public was a better option , and may consider moving to Fairfax county for our child’s high school years

yeah, because this doesn't happen at WEPO, West Springfield, Lake Braddock, South Lakes...

I have taught at one of those for over 5 years, and only once has there been student on staff violence, and it was a cat B student with severe emotional disturbance issues. I can only think of one physical fight either. The level of violence described in the incident is terrifying to me as a staff member.

Don’t forget one student stabbing another to death a couple of years ago. I used to live very close to where that happened and I find the whole thing very disturbing.

That didn't happen at a school. It happened in a shopping center parking lot.

Keep reaching!

School was closed for 2 weeks because it was gang related. And those gangs departed the school to then fight and kill someone. Do you really think it was not school-related? In the videos one assailant is wearing a Canada Goose jacket. These are organized criminal elements. And because we are obsessed with progressive bona fides we act like social workers will make this all better. Alexandrians get what we vote for - and alas here we are.

"In the videos one assailant is wearing a Canada Goose jacket." what does that mean?

Those jackets cost about 2K each.

No they only offered it first to people living in “disadvantaged” or vulnerable zip codes based on 10 yr old census data. Was crazy. Was due to a lobbying effort of Casa Chirilagua and Tenants and Workers United. This was before the state finally took over vaccine distribution.

I think it is fair to note that saying "the inmates are running the asylum" is a negative and inappropriate way to refer to a school where the population of children is mostly Black and Hispanic. However, I think that is a side point to the larger issue of how troubled the school is, and should not be the primary focus of discussion.

No, I live in 22311 a "census track" area and if your were not a POC you couldn't schedule it.

I don't think anyone should get protected from name calling on the basis of skin color. You're OK with 'inmates' being used on white kids but not brown? WTF. Most of the people in jail in this country are white.

Need smaller schools.

Will the city ever correct its errors and allow a second HS?

You think a second high school will stop this?! How and why? You need to get rid of the gangs!

A second high school would negate the need for a 13 minute transition period from class to class where they get into fights and don't respect authority.

Well that will never happen since the geniuses at central office and on the school board decided that the target for school sizes could go up to 110% of capacity and still be considered fine. Despite the standard generally being something like 85-95% of capacity.
