I have taught at one of those for over 5 years, and only once has there been student on staff violence, and it was a cat B student with severe emotional disturbance issues. I can only think of one physical fight either. The level of violence described in the incident is terrifying to me as a staff member. |
Do those schools have gang fights where a guard get hit? Maybe, but I haven’t heard of such a thing. |
Don’t forget one student stabbing another to death a couple of years ago. I used to live very close to where that happened and I find the whole thing very disturbing. |
That didn't happen at a school. It happened in a shopping center parking lot. Keep reaching! |
Many students don't murder other students, either inside or outside of school. I think the point is that it is unusual and disturbing for students to murder one another at all. I cannot believe I am even replying here, btw. The delusion is wild. |
No they're mostly not. And they're mostly not sending kids there to boost college admissions. People just have inertia - they live here, can't afford private, don't want to move and make a change. It's not that deep. |
I think PP is probably right. It is just inertia/convenience. |
Lots of parts of it are not nice and expensive. So many kids in the high school are on free and reduced lunch that everyone just gets it. |
Yes, this is it, at least for my family. I've lived in Alexandria for 20 years and I love my house, neighborhood and community. We had a very good experience in an ACPS elementary school. Middle school has been okay -- I see the problems but my smart, self-motivated kid is doing well, is happy and has a nice, close-knit friend group. I'm looking toward ACHS next year with trepidation, especially after today. But uprooting all of us isn't an easy choice either, and we can't afford private. So for now, we're staying. No pretzels here though, I see plenty of faults in ACPS. |
Annnnnnnd. ACPS just closed for winter break. No school at the HS tomorrow or Friday. 'Safety concerns'
This is what equity looks like in Alexandria. My kid will miss out on instruction because the city literally gives this scum free money. |
Wtf? What “reaching”? It was two students a block from the school on a school day at lunchtime. I can’t believe you’re trying to pretend one student killing another is normal. |
Thanks Buffy. Whitey gonna white. |
Really, did they really close? Our elected city leaders have their priorities all wrong. Why do they bend over backwards spending our tax dollars on subsidies and grants to keep people living in this expensive city who can't afford to live here and don't properly parent their children! |
You have the facts wrong. No one will enetertain you unless you have an accurate grasp. |
Yes it’s really closed and kids have a ton of tests before break (or were supposed to). It’s admitting they have no handle on the situation and no plan either. |
