Again, most of the school-aged kids are either US citizens or hold asylum visas. Moreover, being a sanctuary city means that Fairfax won't use municipal/county resources to aid and abet ICE in rounding up law-abiding residents. So either ICE has to get big enough to take care of this themselves, or they can do what they are supposed to be doing and focus on criminals.

These asylum visas are phony, plain and simple. The majority of South American countries are not in crisis, and the criteria under which migrants from these countries are claiming asylum have largely been fabricated by the Biden administration. True asylum cases involve individuals fleeing active wars or genocides, not generalized violence or economic instability. For example, asylum seekers from war zones like Gaza, Sudan, or countries experiencing severe crises like the Democratic Republic of Congo or Myanmar are legitimate cases under international law. These populations face imminent danger and persecution, qualifying them for asylum. However, these are not the populations filling communities like Fairfax County.

The migrants in Fairfax County primarily come from South American countries such as Venezuela, Honduras, or El Salvador. While these nations face challenges, they are not engulfed in wars or genocides. The Biden administration’s policies have significantly broadened asylum criteria to include situations like economic hardship, gang violence, or domestic issues, which do not meet the traditional standards for asylum. These standards were originally designed to protect individuals facing persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a specific social group—not individuals fleeing poverty or crime.

This shift in policy is no accident. Biden’s political appointees at DHS and the State expanded Temporary Protected Status and asylum eligibility to countries that do not meet the strict definitions required under the law. By labeling countries as "in crisis" without clear justification, they’ve created a loophole allowing mass entry of migrants who would otherwise not qualify. This influx stretches resources in places like Fairfax County, where migrants under these questionable asylum claims are now part of the community.

True asylum should be reserved for those fleeing genuine crises like active wars and genocides—not for migrants from countries where no such conditions exist. A future administration would be well within its rights to revoke these expanded criteria and restore integrity to the asylum system by focusing on legitimate cases of persecution and humanitarian need.

Great, then let's send back every immigrant and their children with family who did not flee war or genocide. That's everyone with family from Poland, Italy, Ireland, Germany, and more. 99% of us would have to leave. Or are these rules only applicable to everyone but YOU?

Did you miss the question? It says assulym seekers those European countries are not phoney assulym seekers, idiot

Yes, European country immigrants were not asylum seekers. But they didn't come from war or genocide and in fact, contributed to the genocide or benefitted from the genocide of the rightful owners of the land we currently all live on. Send everyone back.

This is why Trump won - BS arguments that only “Native Americans” (who came from Asia) have any right to live in Noryh America and therefore anyone else has equal rights (or lack thereof) to live in the United States. It’s a rhetorical sleight of hand, but no basis for a functioning civil society. Most Americans and legal immigrants recognize and agree with this, so they’ve run out of patience with the “anything goes” crowd, most of whom would never try to overstay their visa in a foreign country.

No doubt the coming years will be disruptive but we only got to this point aided and abetted by a bunch of clowns who mostly liked illegal immigrants for cheap yard work and cheap child care.

I don't think deportations will really happen like he is saying. I think it will be more similar to those under the Obama administration and focus mostly on criminals.

I am more concerned with what will happen when they get rid of the Dept of Education and cut Title 1 and Head start funding. That will have a huge impact on the elementary school that feed into these HS.

Or maybe they will create specific rules to receive funding and immigration status will matter.

It will cost $88M to deport 1M illegals. Is that true? Who came up with that figure?

I don't know if that number is correct but it certainly isn't cheap. It's not as simple as throwing people on a bus and driving them to the border or putting them on a plane. They first need to apprehend/round up and that takes manpower we don't have. Then they need to detain them at a facility that we don't have. Then they need to appear before a court and that backlog is already insanely long. I read that on average it takes 3 years before someone is actually deported.

It’s the anything goes that has and is lowering QOL for many people and lacking common sense.

Being able to “think” you’re a different gender

That American citizens don’t have more of a right to be in this country than a non-citizens

Handing out $$$$ to the homeless and DEBIT cards to illegal aliens

Keeping schools closed during Covid

P

^^it is stuff like this lacking common sense. The nation watched and listened to this unfold and thought that even Trump is a better option than this crazy that people like PP are trying to bring upon our great nation. If you believe non-citizens have an equal right as US citizens then what other buffoonery are you trying to unleash on us?

This. I'm a teacher who is a Democrat and who also wants immigration reform. Why? Because I see how much of our resources are devoted to the ELL kids for very little return. A vast majority of their parents do not care about how their kids are doing in school. The parents don't speak English or care to learn, despite our school having a free EL program for parents.

The parents never come for open house or conferences. They rarely return phone calls or emails. School is seen as convenient and free babysitting for them, IMO.

What qualifications and training do these people have to determine someone’s status. Did they go to the academy in Glynco for 6 months of training in immigration training & learn all the laws on immigration. Do they even know what title is used to enforce immigration statues?
Immigrate are only required to show proof of status to someone with immigration authority not some clerk working for a federal agency. We do not need more vigilant citizens

My family is from Poland & Germany, they left worn torn countries after WW2. I am pretty sure Italy was part of that war as well. Knowing history is key.

There is no need for court, these are not us citizens they don't have the same rights. Did you know we can collect DNA from them without any permissions as they are not us citizens? Stop making everyone believe they have the same rights and due process as us citizens, they don't.

Maybe you should try to understand where they are coming from. Parents aren’t involved in school in their home countries. They are uneducated and the teachers are the educated ones so they send their kids to school to be taught. Many parents have dropped out of school at a young age to work so they aren’t literate in Spanish.

Most of these parents are working multiple jobs here. They don’t have paid time off and they can’t afford to skip work for a conference with a teacher. If I do have a parent come in, they are usually expecting me yo say how bad their kid is because they have no concept of parental involvement in school. The only time they got called to school in their country is if their child misbehaved.

It takes a few generations to change perceptions and understanding. It’s a good thing there are some teachers out there who care to learn about why the parents act the way they do.

If a new Trump administration tightens asylum rules, many who qualified under Biden’s expanded criteria—such as claims based on economic hardship, domestic abuse, or generalized violence—could lose eligibility. Pending asylum cases would likely be reassessed, and those that no longer meet stricter definitions could be denied, leading to removal orders. Even those already granted asylum under Biden’s broader rules might face review and possible revocation. Additionally, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for countries added under Biden, like Venezuela or Haiti, could be rescinded, requiring individuals to leave the U.S.

Under tightened rules, many migrants could be removed quickly through expedited removal, a process that bypasses court hearings for individuals who fail to meet credible fear or asylum criteria. This allows immigration authorities to swiftly deport those without valid claims, resetting the system to focus on genuine persecution cases while curtailing what critics see as misuse of asylum under Biden’s policies.

If they are here without permission they are by definition not law abiding. Everyone here without permission is eligible for deportation. That's what people voted for two weeks ago without any doubt. Fairfax county can't do anything to stop someone from being deported.

DP
I agree with you. As another poster said though, they can’t stop deportation but it doesn’t mean that Fairfax County has to use its resources to assist.

Fairfax county is so close to the nations capital that it is required to report status and it's not a far distance for ice to come get the criminals

Right. ICE. Not a county resource.

No one has said the county would use resources. But they also can't stop it from happening. Those two things aren't mutually exclusive.

I don’t think anyone on here has said the county would try to stop it from happening, just reiterating that they probably won’t assist.

Need or not they do go to court. I’m not stating my opinion on the matter just how things are carried out.

Same here. Seems like it's an unpopular opinion for a teacher to state this in DCUM, but it is the case and not the exception.
