Nobody deserves to die from playing stupid games though. And certainly a little boy doesn't deserve to be deprived of his father.

It has nothing to do with what is or is not deserved. Life is fragile, and when you play fast and loose with your own health and safety and that of others, death is a foreseeable potential outcome.

Addiction doesn't let you think in that clear-headed way though. That's what addiction is - a force stronger than everything else.

That’s why you choose not to do drugs in the first place. Doing them even that first time is putting your entire life at risk. And the outcome is foreseeable and knowable. This isn’t a mystery.

But many people are very dumb to start with. He was hardly a rocket scientist.

I am almost positive he'd taken his GCSE's but not done A-levels when he was 16 and signed to One Direction. His parents were blue collar.

He was clean right before all this per tests required to renew his visa to re-enter US. He had one more appointment on Thursday at the embassy and was due to get the stamp on Friday so he could return to FL. That makes the timing of all of this so odd. Had there been an incident that got media attention he put all of that in jeopardy.

Seems that when his girlfriend left, he fell off the bandwagon. Staff at the hotel offered to get him drugs (good money in it for them) or he asked and he started using again. He had been to rehab on and off but I don't think he had reached any level of true sobriety. The stress of being dropped by his record label and his publicist and the cease and desist letter from his ex was probably something he self medicated to deal with. He also had a couple friends down there he was hanging out with - they might have been using with him? He may have had other things going on as well - who knows. I don't think he intentionally jumped - seems more like he was in such an altered state of mind and potentially altered state of consciousness that he didn't even really know what he was doing.

Of all the singers that this had to happen too...it is very suspicious.

But if he'd been ON the bandwagon why did his record label and publicist drop him? Because of what Maya Henry said?

Apparently his record label dropped him because he had been unrealiable and not producing the kind of music they thought would sell. I think he had been on and off the bandwagon as he had apparently gone to rehab for a brief time in July. I think generally things were just not going well for him. The publicist - who knows. I doubt what Maya said about sending him a cease and desist letter had too much impact.

It seems like he may have felt like both his personal and professional life were crashing down on him. Maybe that's why if someone working at the hotel offered him drugs he accepted. Nobody's ever offered me drugs in a hotel. I must not have the right look.

I doubt he was offered drugs rather than he was asking around for some.

I dunno - my friend is a bartender and gets offered drugs a lot at work. She's also been offered coke when in taxis, more than once.

Three people have been arrested. I feel like this has only started in the last ten or so years - hunting down who provided the drugs someone else died from. THey did it for Matthew Perry too (granted, only a year ago), and that boybander's little brother who OD'd.

It has nothing to do with what is or is not deserved. Life is fragile, and when you play fast and loose with your own health and safety and that of others, death is a foreseeable potential outcome.

That’s why you choose not to do drugs in the first place. Doing them even that first time is putting your entire life at risk. And the outcome is foreseeable and knowable. This isn’t a mystery.
