Seems that when his girlfriend left, he fell off the bandwagon. Staff at the hotel offered to get him drugs (good money in it for them)  or he asked and he started using again. He had been to rehab on and off but I don't think he had reached any level of true sobriety. The stress of being dropped by his record label and his publicist and the cease and desist letter from his ex was probably something he self medicated to deal with. He also had a couple friends down there he was hanging out with - they might have been using with him? He may have had other things going on as well - who knows. I don't think he intentionally jumped - seems more like he was in such an altered state of mind and potentially altered state of consciousness that he didn't even really know what he was doing.[/quote]

Apparently his record label dropped him because he had been unrealiable and not producing the kind of music they thought would sell. I think he had been on and off the bandwagon as he had apparently gone to rehab for a brief time in July. I think generally things were just not going well for him. The publicist - who knows. I doubt what Maya said about sending him a cease and desist letter had too much impact. [/quote]

It seems like he may have felt like both his personal and professional life were crashing down on him. Maybe that's why if someone working at the hotel offered him drugs he accepted. Nobody's ever offered me drugs in a hotel. I must not have the right look. [/quote]
