Does Gen Z really want children or not?

I generally think if you were a positive parent that didn’t give vibes that parenting was a nonstop chore (and you had enough $$$s that your kids never felt deprived), your kids will want kids.

This also means staying away from religious bullshit as an argument for having kids, and not fostering extreme positions the other way on climate change or what not.

I feel fairly confident my kids will want kids, but I will report back in 10 years when they are late 20s.

Gen Z tops out at 27 right now. So no — most of them aren’t having kids yet. It’ll happen in the next 5-8 years.

This is like when most Millennials were in our 20s and you were all deciding we hated the suburbs and cars.

My son is 16 (Alpha) and talks about having kids. Have heard him say 1 or 2 and most recently that he'd prefer to have kids in his late 20s to be free in his 40s. I think he has seen us do that and in comparison to most friends who older parents he has a preference. I told him it takes two to make that plan happen but we support him in any circumstance.

"Enable" is the wrong word. The issue is that Republican policies make it hard for the poor to avoid unwanted pregnancies.

These same policies also make it difficult to wean off of assistance and do better. Also, there is a limit to how much funding one can receive, though you may think it’s unlimited, it is not. And why do you want to punish children for what their parents are doing?

As a different person who is a breeder, I don't get bothered by folks who don't want kids--less competition for my descendants.

Nope. Not a breeder I have one child. Your initial brash comment on overpopulation though belies an ignorance regarding actual statistics and facts that indicate declining populations worldwide especially over the next 30 years. Stop trying to be punchy. And educate yourself.

For everyone saying they are happy that their kids don't want kids- why? the way society is set up now, I think it would be incredibly sad and joyless to not have kids and that love and support. Idk if we want a society where people are addicted to phones alone in their houses without kids to help increase community, perspective, and meaning.

Agree. It’s the parents who hated being parents and don’t want to be grandparents. They don’t care what happens to society 50 years from now bc they will be dead.

My ds wants a whole bunch of kids. He's good with kids, loves sports, can see himself as some super active dad. DD is an introvert, squeamish about medical stuff, and likes doing her own thing, having her time to herself. At this point, she says she isn't sure she ever wants kids. She also says it's a lot of work, which she isn't wrong about!
