Herndon high - what’s going on?

I have no doubt that SBG is an absolute disaster and is a contributing factor to the problems at those schools. But it is a bit dismissive of a lot of other issues at Herndon to insinuate that that is the primary problem.

For more context, search for some of the historical threads discussing gang activity at Herndon.

*the moderators tends to delete the newer threads discussing gang activity. And some LWNJs will accuse you of being racist if you state that you don’t want your kids to go to school with gang members. It’s really bizarre.

I have read those threads. And I am a HHS parent and I can tell that you do not know the reality of the situation at that school. Look at how well non-FARMS kids do and how many AP/DE classes are offered despite the challenges some students there face. Get off Fox News and take a better look.

Though of course you’ll accuse me of lying, I can assure you that I am a moderate democrat who gets his news from the Washington Post. I truly wish for the best outcomes at Herndon high, and you may be right that the school is actually just fine and not deserving of its reputation as an under performing school.

To which I respond with a question- then why is there such a push for the Forestville-will-be-our-savior redistricting?

There isn’t. People I talk to IRL could give a flyin’ fig about Forestville. And you only perpetuate the myth that everyone at Herndon wants redistricting or not. Good ahead though, keep hyperventilating about redistricting. The SB will move everyone to SBG and then you’ll learn your mistake.

The point is that the principal made a huge mistake by rolling out SBG without any teacher training or professional development so it failed. The teachers were miserable and the students were suffering. Parents tried their best to advocate for their kids all year and they were ignored. She threw the teachers under the bus and told us parents we needed to report the individual teachers who were being inconsistent. Parents continued to watch our kids fail. Finally after making enough of a ruckus and demanding data, in May, Liz produced the data which proved that SGB did bring grades down after all! So parents went to the higher ups at FCPS. They didn’t respond to parents but gave Liz choices for how to proceed. She chose the worst option for her staff - which was a logistical nightmare that forced them to go against all educational principles and allow retakes of all material - and then told the teachers it was all the parents fault. The teachers blame the parents instead of Liz and are taking it out on the students. The students were the pawns in her master plan to make a name for herself and no one but the parents cared. FCPS did these kids dirty.

Yep. I have no doubt FCPS will promote her or worse she’ll be on the SB or made superintendent in the future.

What a pitiful attitude. What will exactly break loose? Your sanity? What exactly are you planning? Don't even what? How much you paid for a house doesn't somehow make your child unable to live and learn with someone who didn't pay as much. It is clear that you think money equals someone's worth. I don't even have a horse in this race, it just makes me sad when people think of children this way.

Not sure the big deal. People have been avoiding schools with high poverty levels since forever. That won't change. Is this some kind of revelation?

Also if you buy next to another HS, should not be a shocker if lines redrawn to have you go there.

well if there is no historical precedence in regular boundary changes, it might be a shocker.

Luckily most just won't go (privates, IB transfers, etc) or move.

She’s just repeating this stuff over and over in this thread, ignoring people who call out her obvious lies and faulty logic . She just thinks her property value will increase if they redistrict Forestville to Herndon.

Herndon parent again: It all comes down to Reid and Tyson - both are well aware of what is going on. They need to step up and take charge. Otherwise it will continue as is. Noto made it crystal clear she is not a good leader so it’s on Reid/Tyson to take action now.

So most likely then more SBG with retakes and increased grades from retakes will show Reid “all is well” and more good teachers will leave. So unless bigger drop in SOLs, more of same.

It’s funny you focus on retakes. You clearly are not listening. You think offering retakes result in better grades. Truly clueless.

Everyone who wants Langley knows not to buy into that subdivision near Herndon because of the risk of redistricting. That’s why the houses are cheaper - that’s the risk you took when you got that deal…

DP without SBG and only reading here but thought point of retakes was to give chance for kids to increase grades and that was one result from PTA letters. What is point of retakes if not that? Why introduce it then and why letters to college admissions offices?

And everyone in Herndon gets cheaper houses because they have a subpar school. That’s also what they signed up for. Not sure why you feel that those other citizens owe you anything.

Then out of luck b/c precedent. Agree those that can may try private.

Wait, are you arguing that the people that could only afford to rent apartment or buy house in Herndon should have “known better” and bought in Langley to prevent any redrawing of boundaries???

I always find it humorous when you make this argument. You know how percentages work, right?

Not sure how that’s any different than the post that I was responding to. Help me see the daylight between the two arguments because I was just offering an extension of her logic.
