Herndon high - what’s going on?

SBG is not helping kids learn better especially struggling kids. Why are we playing around with grading to fudge numbers rather than figuring out how to actually help kids learn?

They could have just had a class to go over planners and homework issues for all kids with Cs or lower rather than implementing all this pretend help for students through grading which is so obviously not actually giving kids anymore help and is just playing with numbers.

Just have more intervention classes for kids who are struggling rather than manufactured grading.

SBG, like every plan ever to close any gap will always fail because of parents. The amount of time, effort, and money to fight this losing battle is astounding.

So if I follow, most answers to original question of what’s going on at Herndon HS point to principal and SBG. Will HH continue SBG with unlimited retakes next year or what has principal said grading plan will be next year? Thx,

Herndon parent again: It all comes down to Reid and Tyson - both are well aware of what is going on. They need to step up and take charge. Otherwise it will continue as is. Noto made it crystal clear she is not a good leader so it’s on Reid/Tyson to take action now.

So most likely then more SBG with retakes and increased grades from retakes will show Reid “all is well” and more good teachers will leave. So unless bigger drop in SOLs, more of same.

It’s ridiculous, but it’s why we paid the price we paid for our home. We have tons more square footage and land than we would have if we bought closer to Langley. There is no way our neighborhood or the surrounding ones would allow the redistricting to happen.

This is outrageous and exactly why the boundaries need to be redrawn.
There is no law that says your property value is priority over boundary changes.

Funny all the comments about Langley on here as I didn’t realize HH principal’s husband works at Langley (was athletic director when she took HH job and now director student services). So, will she send her kids to Langley or Herndon?

What a pitiful attitude. What will exactly break loose? Your sanity? What exactly are you planning? Don't even what? How much you paid for a house doesn't somehow make your child unable to live and learn with someone who didn't pay as much. It is clear that you think money equals someone's worth. I don't even have a horse in this race, it just makes me sad when people think of children this way.

From the May 2 meeting, did any other parent think the letter that HH said sending to college admissions meant anything? It’s too late. At least juniors get chance for retakes to help their admissions packets for next fall.

Not sure the big deal. People have been avoiding schools with high poverty levels since forever. That won't change. Is this some kind of revelation?

Also if you buy next to another HS, should not be a shocker if lines redrawn to have you go there.

well if there is no historical precedence in regular boundary changes, it might be a shocker.

Luckily most just won't go (privates, IB transfers, etc) or move.
